Ok, i just got back from getting poo and it was a very interesting experience. Anyways, all i could get was cow poo. Will cow produce as potent shroomies as horse. All i seem to read about is horse. Hopefully so because i have about 100 pounds of this shit.

It will work. Not as GOOD as from the horsie, but it will work well. It has something to do with the horses's digestive tract. Not sure other than that.

I had always supposed that as some strains are found in cow poo in the wild, these strains should grow better in cow poo than horse.
Has it been proven otherwise?

Yes but you don't always want to mimic nature.
Other poo that I hear about is Elephant and Rhino
But Cow poo does not compete with Hpoo, I believe

ya, my mom was talking about how cows digestive system isn't the same and that may make a diff. (and no she doesnt know its for the cubenis strain) I just divided up all the shit and i do have a good amount of horse shit also. I'm going to use that horse for now and if need extra i might go with the cow. I'll go searching for more horse again tomorrow.

To answer this yes it will produce as potent of shrooms as horse poo, the reason people prefer horse poo is that it doesnt contam as easily as cow poo, I have tried both and I have much better luck with horse poo, I use cow poo for outdoor cultivation........

i'm thinking cow poo may have more nutrients than the horse poo due to the shorter digestive process of the cow. This may be why the cow poo is more susceptible to contams. If so i would guess that cow is actually better. Maybe i am completely and totally wrong. any thoughts?

Horse manure has a better texture than cow manure. Cow manure will work good with 10-20% vermiculite added. Even better with shredded straw in place of vermiculite.
Horse manure is all around better IMHO though.

i would think horse manure is not as digested as the cow (since the cow has multiple stomachs). More nutrients available.

Well I quote from this post Cow Poo Vs Horse Poo - Which is better and why?
Located on the bottom of the page under Related Threads.

Holydiver said: Horse manure is better on texture alone. Cow poo has a mud consistency, therefore it dries as such. Horse manure has the consistency of finely chopped straw (essentially what it is), providing the mycelium with near perfect colonization texture and conditions.
very well said.
plus the cow has 4 stomachs...so its way more broken down. I'd guess that there are less nutrients in cow manure from this braking down process.
I hate having to add straw to cow manure to get a good substrate base... cutting up wheat straw isn't my idea of having a good time. even with a gas powered hedge cutter.
I like horse poo the best cause its like that commercial...Set it and forget it.

Good Luck

Hmmmm...this is a hard one. I think horse crap is easier to use for growing but I'm not really sure which the shrooms like more. We all have good points here but one thing i can't ever remember hearing is "lets head out to the feilds and look threw some horse crap for shrooms" but I have heard thousands of em say they are heading out to the cow pastures to look for shrooms so it's kind of hard to say.
It seems that around the world the most common place to find em is some kind of bovine crap. (cows, water buffalo, bison and such)
I did see them growing on elephant crap at a zoo once. ( man I wanted to jump that fucking fence those shrooms were huge and I think I could have made it)

in nature spores wont discern between between cown and horse and elephant. They should all be equal "targets", but for the reasons the snaggle quoted horse poo is what should be used for indoor cultivation.
Not to say that you cant use cow poo but you're better off with the horse shit.

After years of hunting in the southern US, my theory is that the cow manure is not the actual substrate in cow pastures. It seems that the cow shits on the grass over spores that were previously deposited there by the wind. The spores germinate and begin to colonize below the cow patty in the manure enriched soil below. Remember, it's old and decayed manure pies that you find the fruits on. Rain has already leached the nutrients from the cow pie into the soil below. Later when the mycelium reaches the surface, the cow patty acts as the casing layer the mushrooms fruit from.
My indoor experiments with straight cow manure produced dismal results unless it was mixed with something else such as worm castings or coir.
Horse manure on the other hand will support very nice indoor fruitings even when left uncased. I believe it's the better choice for indoor growing. RR

Horse poo is better for 3 main reasons...
1. Looser structure - This enables the myc network to run faster. Enabling the grower to cut the vegatative growth time down drastically.
2. Higher precentage of beneficial bacteria - This causes for a lower chance of contams and faster colonization.
3. Higher presence of nitrogen - Nitrogen is essential in this hobby, and tends to have a great effect on potency, which is why your potency gains when you go from PF to bulk.
You could use cow poo and achieve the same results, but it would require far more work coming up with a good ratio of cow poo:straw and then some added nitrogen (maybe bloodmeal)
IME - dont use cow poo
