Monotub Air Circulation
    #5310896 - 02/17/06 03:56 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Do monotubs need to be out in the open so they can get air from all sides? it seems that way in my tubs.
i put my monotubs in this closet that my martha used to be in...

i left the closet doors open and had my ceiling fan on at all times. but really only one side of the tubs was actually geting any air movement on it. i had my first pins 8 days ago.... soooo slow.
KSSS tub - many of the fruits on the dead side aborted halfway to maturity
S. American tub - skinny slender little fruits, cap diameter = stem diameter, i thought SA were supposed to be big?

but i cant risk leaving tubs out in the middle of my room...
damn.

Was one of the sides with holes right up against the wall? What if you turn them so that one of the shorter sides, without the holes, are against the wall. They might be sticking out of the closet slightly that way, but it seems like it should be easier to get some FAE when the holes are unobstructed.

stick a little turbofan inside your closet. that way you get constant air circulation inside there... along with positive pressure.

people say it doesn't matter how much air is circulating, but i think that's bs.

Oatman has it right. I always employ a small fan with my tubs. My pins do better and it moves things along faster as well. The key is having enough air exchange without drying your casing layer out. I recommend using a fan during the day and shutting it off at night. I do this and have had great results.

Where do you put the fan? Just on top of the tub lid?

I point the fan in the vicinity of the tubs and about 2-3 feet away.

what kind of fan did you use Wronguy? ive heard you and others say that its a bad idea to point a fan directly at a tub.

T_R_B - i could turn them but i dont think thats going to change much. i need more movement in the closet.
