only one big pin..... help

after 2 weeks, there is no signs of pinning other then ONE nice 2" (my lil baby) the casings seem fully colonized and pretty much like a solid sheet, but whats up with the rest of them, when are they going to go pop pop pop pop up? this ever happen to anyone else, how can i get them to pin faster? thanks

sterilize a fork or knife and gouge the top of your casing... you want to "scratch" it right down to the substrate, it'll force the mycelium to pin (pretty much)... if you want more info, search the forum for "scratching" or "deep scratching"... this will give a large first flush.. but I think it's fairly hard on the network, and your latter flushes will be diminished.

Some people find it important to induce pinning at the right time,
or else you can end up with a tough solid sheet.

Anyways, if your 2" in has broken the veil I would suggest picking it.
Stripping the casing, SCRAPING IT lightly down to the colonized substrate,
washing it off and throwing it into the fridge in a ziplock.

The next day recase and try again.  This time go to " pinning " in the archives and start from the ground up :smile:

There are a LOT of ways to go about this.  My last 12x12 casings yielded over 60 mushrooms average per tray,  but then again, those were dung/seed...

Many people here will disagree, but...

A casing tray which has mycelium spreading through 10-25% the valleys, is first sprayed with water and then covered with plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and placed in a trash bag(air removed), in the fridge. After at least 16 hours, this is removed and placed under fruiting conditions. If the conditions are correct, I have seen most all casings done this way begin pinning in 3-5 days.
