Not fruiting....
    #5310641 - 02/17/06 02:20 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

OK, I'm completely new to growing mushrooms and I started out with the PF Tek and inoculated some jars. Out of 6, 2 of them began to show rhizomorphic growth. I checked and both of them were caked up (except the dry vermiculite on top). I tryed to birth them and heres the thing, I got rid of the dry verm on top and now instead of seeing pins, I see more rhizomorphic growth. Now the cake itself has the ropy type but this top is only growing the fuzzy type, and that is all that seems to be happening, more and more fuzzy growth. It is extremely white, so i dont think its contams but why do you think this is happening?

That's completely normal. That fuzzy white growing myc will start knotting in a few days. Just keep the humidity in the upper 90s and fan the cakes often, like 4-6 times daily, and you'll have pins in no time.

The cakes will continue their growth until they're ready to fruit, even after birthing. Tiny is correct, the white ropy fuzz are the knot developing into pins. Good work so far, post some pics after the pins develop!

Peace and luck.
