no vermiculite

well today i went to get my casing materials got perlite and peat moss. but when it came to vermiculite the woman at home depot told me they havent had it in years and i couldent find it at kmart. is vermiculite nessisary? can i substite with perlite? or what else would you guys recomend to use with peat moss seeing how i already have it? they dident even have jiffy mix

Try garden supply stores, hydroponic shops & plant nursery places.
One will have Verm, just keep looking.

if you have any feed stores,or a hydroponics store..both will have it,though it will be more expensive at the hydro store..good luck,there are some online places ..im sure someone will hook you with a link

Nope, no perlite substitution. Sorry. You need the vermiculite really. Lowes carries it. DEFINATELY. Thats the only place I can find it. Have one of those?

And you really should go to a pet store and get some crushed oyster shells as well. They will help ward off contams after the first flush.

Does calcium carbonate actually help ward off contams tokey? I thought it was just a pH buffer?

Green mold likes slightly acidic conditions. So by having the calcium carbonate there to keep the pH neutral, in a way, it does ward off contams.
