Hey everybody, I'm in Fred'burg VA and I was wondering if a trip to Maryland for shroom-hunting would be worth going? If anyones had any luck in there please reply and give me the region I should look in! Or some other place in VA if you happen to be lucky enough.

why would you drive to MD to look for shrooms? you would be better off driving south to NC or SC and you should find some cubes given the right conditions. all you will find in MD are Pan Subbs and they wont be easy to find, definately not worth driving there.

Well this time of year there is really nothing to find in either MD or VA, but I would suggest sticking around where you are. Conventionally, you can expect to find Panaeolus subbalteatus, Gymnopilus sp., perhaps Psilocybe caerulipes, however I believe VA has not been that well explored and it is quite possible that given enough time and dedication you might find other things. VA has such a wide variation, there are 4 distinct climatological zones, five major physiographic divisions, much of which is generally classified as "humid subtropical", which is ideal for a wide variety of fungal species. "Virginia is also uniquely positioned to capture species at or near the southern limit of their range, as well as southern species reaching the northern limits of their distributions". here It also is along the hurricane route, and should theoretically be the beneficiary of spore distribution that that provides. Anyway this is all just to say It might be worth your while, and anyone else in the state, to stick around here and see what they might find. You might be surprised.

You are going to find that the chances are slim for finding active stuff in VA, if you don't happen to look in the right place at the right time. I don't have anything bad to say about it. The hiking and camping that I've done there was great. I can remember even cooking up some edibles on the camp fire.
