Fruiting on the sides

This is my first time cultivating, and my brazilians are having a strange problem. All the trays are fruiting on the sides, directly between the casing and the tupperware. For these I cased it with a simple 50/50 soil-verm mixture, with a thin layer of topsoil. I'm wondering if the problem stemmed from the first three days after incubation, I didn't have the time to get that duct tape on there. Could that be why?
The fruits are still looking spectacular, but I'm worried about reduction in yield

Yea, you want the sides of your container to be opaque, and your light source to be coming directly through the top. The shrooms grow toward the light, so the straighter the light is to dead center above them, the straighter they'll grow.

The reason why pins like to form on the sides of casings is because it pretty much provides the perfect microclimate for them, especially if light is coming through the sides. Next time try agar's advice of lining the inside of the tray with alum foil. The foil will stick to the substrate and will move with it as the sub pulls back from the sides. Also it'll keep light out.
For now you'll probably have to pull the casing out like a giant cake in order to clean it off for harvest time. When you put it back into your tray, try to pack some damp verm down the sides to prevent side pinning on the second flush

Yes, definitely pull the casing out and fruit it like a cake. Then when you harvest the casing put it back in the container, however, pack it with DRY verm as this will create a climate that pins wont form in again. This will hopefully force the new pinset to form on top.
Dont be distressed tho, good things can come out of side pinning.....

i pulled 2 oz 1 1/4 dry off of that

Jesus, you guys were quick, and very informitive.
Should I pull all my casings out and birth them in the same container? I have about 5 fruiting at the moment, all on the sides

Ah sorry coda, I didn't mean to give out the misinformation. I just figured the damp verm would be a means of rehydration after the flush. Thanks for clearing that up though.

no problem, that's a tip i picked up from hyphae. I used to put damp casing layer down the sides too, it just adds to the problem hence my picture

pick up the container, put your hand on top of the casing, flip the container over while still holding the casing, pull the container off and stick the "cake" on top of it.
