I need to do a reader report on this girls poems for a class, and one of her poems is about Syd Barrett, and since I had no idea who he was (I'm not a big floyd fan) I googled him, and ended up comming across this video.
Figured i'd share, its kinda neat.

Whoa that's a cool video. Damn shame he went bonkers. I suppose he must have been predisposed to getting it genetically or something?

That was beautiful. I like when he's looking at his hands and seems utterly shocked, then gets distracted by some nothingness to his left.

I bet if you were on shrooms or acid and hanging out with Syd Barrett "sober," you'd think he was a genius. Then again, I've not had acid yet nor met Syd Barrett, so what am I talking about.

I'm sure he used to be. Haven't heard much about his intellectual abilities in the past few decades though so I can't speak on that.

I can't wait to see this video, I can't as of yet (only some computers at my college can use flash). Syd is one of my favorite people out there. That guy made some very interesting music. Even when he was out , past the edge, he was still making great music, it's just harder to find it (what he was talking about in his music, it's all there you just have to search his music to find it).

This was bought by one of my friends one time and it was under the name, Syd Barretts First Trip. On the back it said it was his first time with mushrooms.

Given the time, I think it's safe to assume that he didn't eat mushrooms, but acid. He was just playing with some non active ones.

Id love to see the video of the weirdness in the recording studio after he had eaten too much acid, too many times. As the band put it, he was no longer a functional member of the band. Seeing him brushing his teeth while jumping up and down, and doing a wide variety of other things at the same time in the recording studio. It made a few of the members feel very sorry for him.
He was likely very much prone to having mental problems. I have eaten acid around 70 times, many of the trips were 500 mics+. It really changed my life, but never anything too scary as far as after effects go, and certainly nothing as bad as what happened to syd. I am able to trip pretty hard off of .5 grams of shrooms now though. I also will likely have subtle visuals for the rest of my life. All things that dont interfere with my life as a "normal person". What it did to my day to day cognition, is quite stunning to the point where I am by no means normal. An interesting side note, both sides of my family have people who were schizophrenic and killed themselves. Im pretty sure the tendancy didnt skip me. Somehow after 160 or so trips on ayahuasca, mushrooms, lsd, lsa's, dxm, amanitas, salvia, and smoked dmt----> I turned out ok. I certainly did stop taking them at some point, and will never do them again. I learned all I needed to know, things that most people wouldnt believe around the 100 trip mark.

Stemmer, was your final ayahuasca trip with rue or caapi? I know that you've had a bit of rue experience under your belt, but don't remember hearing about that lasting time.

It was with rue, but I chewed the seeds, instead of tea or extraction. For me this was by far, most effective and long lasting.
Ayahuasca (rue/viridis) was my last trip ever for sure because it has lasted for about 2 years. I dont think the subtle day to day visuals will ever go away (among other things). Ayahuasca has had the most long lasting (life changing) after effects for me. Though it wouldnt have been like this If I had not tripped so many times before the end. It would be my guess that it is well known to cause some very serious after effects. As some shamans say, the best work done with ayahuasca is in the months and years that follow. Caapi has alway been smoother for me, but harder on the stomach.

You're damn right. It's a shame we can't be that in awe of the world 24/7 and still function.
And yeah, that girl... there's something about her. So beautiful and pure. The 60's rocked. I matured in the wrong decade.
Where can I download this video to keep? I'm not internet-stupid but I can't find a way to save it, only stream.

well it's also something to the effect that the only white noise we get is produced by television and machines, not by waterfalls, and the only stimulation we get is from massive sensory overload, not a subtle meditation over a tranquil sunset.
the only songs we hear are generated formulaically and repeated ad nauseam, and not created by the wind and the crickets and the subtleties of organic life.
the fact that i haven't been out in nature in forever..........
there is no REST in this world, which is why this video is paritcularly beautiful because 1: it's just a group of humans ALONE, so that they can all connect to each other and have a sense of unity, rather than the sense of extreme isolation we feel when we are constantly surrounded by thousands of strangers. 2) they are in nature AND tripping. How much more resotrative does it get?

It's up to us to start a new 60s, do you think the 60s would have happened if everyone sat on their asses watching TV? I hope we the shroomery can influence the minds of millions with our altered brainwaves so as to instill a peaceful new hippy generation. Wishful thinking though.

We are kind of in a new 60's if you consider the circumstances. Sudden explosion of drug law reform support, we're in a war we don't want, and psychedelics seem to be regaining popularity to a certain extent.
I have a feeling that we're going to see a breakdown of the rat race generation sometime in our lifetime. Either full on legalization or the end of the world. Either one wouldn't be too bad.

I wasn't just saying that because I saw mushrooms in it. Like I said, there was a packaged video of Syd Barret's First Trip, and on the very video it said the experience was a mushroom trip. I only say this because it was provided in the summary of the video.
I agree, though, those did look like non actives.

And I wasn't only saying it because of the mushrooms in the video either. I've seen some crazy shit in file names and file descriptions. People like guessing.
Aside from that, this was way before any kind of cultivation of these species. The only ones they'd be able to find growing in the UK would be liberty caps, and I'm really not sure how well known they were at the time, throw on the fact that identification would be tough. The chances of it being acid are a good 100 times greater, at least I'd say.

I have seen this pre-packaged DVD in Tower and it does say he was on mushrooms, who knows though the packaging looked kind of cheap.
That youtube site is pretty good have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa87jfNWI_8&search=drugs

the world will only end if we attach to and believe what the media is selling us.
i do figure its just an elaborate test.
do you attach to fear? If so, bye-bye. Do you attach to love? If so, the world may have a bright future and you may be right.

I will agree with you on that one. However, if someone lived in an area where mushrooms were normally around, they would probably have at least a little knowledge that those kinds of mushrooms make you do strange things, or whatever. People that live near them have known about shrooms for a very long time.

I'm pretty sure i was there (age 11)...cruzin with herbie g., who was turning on alot of people at that time, with his cia connections and double-domed orangy/pink mushroom-essense tablets (same ones tim got with his 'research-grant') The rocky-hillside brought it back to me, that and the band.
On second thought, i think i must of dosed (at this same location, with the band) later, since syd was allready pretty far-gone at this time...crushing mandrax (english qualudes) tablets and mixing them with dippity-doo (sixties hair-gell) to 'relax his hair'
What a nut!
One more thing...that was me squeezing the squeeky rubber-ducky on inter-steller overdrive ( or some similar early 'freak-out' number)
Never got paid for that one either.

Not sure who made them, but they were pharmaceutical psilocybin, 3 of them and i was seeing a peacock-feather, tantric sage mantle of light round tim's head & shoulder, so painfully vivid/beautifully to look at, and so specific in it's candle-flame like edges, that it was obviously a actual energy-field phenomenon, no mere hallucination!

Many decades from now I hope to remember my visuals as well as I do now, and not only when I read my confusing writings. Sometimes I wonder if occasionally tripping will keep my mind working in that way, or if the continuation will lead to too many experiences to decipher. Either way... isn't likely that I'll stop unless forced.
