Among the nerdiest things I've ever done:

And I did it for the public good.
I had a good two hours of free time in the Phsyical Sciences computer lab after finishing up in chemistry... so I went prowling the web looking for nearly every form of periodic table a person would ever be likely to need. Some of this stuff is pretty damn niche, and is well over my head.
The rest is all the stuff that I looked specifically for, though. Because it can be useful!
Enjoy the linkage, I've got a lot of high-rez images here. Myself I'll be printing them out, putting them in those plastic sleeves that can hook on the rings inside of a binder, and using it as the foundation for a handy chemistry reference compilation.
The big one with photo illustrations is the same exact one that's in the hallways of my college's chemistry building, hung proudly across the hall from the stockroom right above the Merck Index.
But enough of my gab, the list:
The many faces of the periodic table of elements
- Basic Model, Black and White. Scanned from a book.
- Illustration of the different families of elements. Numbering is IUPAC (I prefer IUPAC)
- A table of the metals, semi-metals, and nonmetals, but also animated to show the different families.
- Breakdown of the separate periods and groups
- My favorite basic model. Large, good image quality, fairly accurate atomic weights. Also shows phase of elements at room temperature
- Abstract illustration of the Electron configuration blocks
- Straightforward illustration of electron configuration blocks.
- Something like a cross of the two above. This is also an example of the rare layout that puts the rare earth metals in the main table body where they belong
- Good for the lazy, this one just shows all the electron configurations fully completed for you.
- Periodic Table showing a basic reference for electronegativity of the elements.
- This one I thought was neat. It shows elements needed by life forms, and elements considered toxic to life forms.
- This is a nice, tasteful one that's easy to read. Instead of weighted averages, it lists the atomic weights of the common stable isotopes of the elements.
- I like the professional layout and appearance of this one. It also just has an appearance of being very educational.
- This is the illustrated one that our science building has. Most of the elements have a picture shown of them. More novelty than practical, but still neat.
- Wallpaper-sized periodic table. Greyscale. Very crisp and clean. I'd call this minimalist.
- If they had crammed any more information into this periodic table, it would have puked out a pile of textbooks. (please do note that this one includes fictional elements. It is lore, not science. I just felt it was amusing, so worth seeing)
- This massive 5304x2487 periodic table claims to be that of an Earth Scientist. I give it the benefit of the doubt... it's bloody humongous, and has all sorts of information that I don't understand.
- This seems to be a periodic table giving information about the structure of metals. Not being versed in such things, I wouldn't know.
- A simple jpeg periodic table, with the rare earth metals again placed in their proper place. The radioactive elements are highlighted.
- This looks like a screenshot from chemistry software of some kind. It shows the heat of fusion of the elements.
- From what I can make of this one, it shows the thermal conductivity of the elements at a temperature of 300 Kelvin.
- This shows which elements are solid, liquid, or gaseous at 290 Kelvin. (a bit below room temperature)
- This shows which elements are solid, liquid, or gaseous at 20 degrees celsius (standard room temperature)
- This shows which elements are solid, liquid, or gaseous at 2280.00 Kelvin (very fucking hot)
- This shows the phase of elements at room temperature, and also shows the man-made elements highlighted in orange
- This seems to be a reference about which elements have been succesfully manufactured into powdered metals.
Other Interesting Chemistry Images
I imagine that is far less amusing to most other people. At the time, however, it was very fun searching for all of those.

i have no idea what this one is, either: http://www.heliconstruct.com/ANS_selection.gif
but, i think it's interesting how the images resemble mandelbrads...

those are orbital diagrams of the selected elements and drawn according to BSM theory which can be read about here, http://www.helical-structures.org/

Oh, that makes sense.
I had a hunch it might be something along those lines, but I was far from sure.
