With g2g transfers, what would be the extent to which you could colonize the mycelium

would you be able to extend the circulation throughout an endless amount of jars? wouldn't after awhile the newer colonized mycelium become less and less active?
jw. say from the first colonized jar, you make 12 more. from those twelve you could then make 124 - or however many you can extend to. eventually the mycelium would lose life (activity), and you'd have to start the process again via spores. right?

You can go several generations out, but eventually the strain will begin to lose vigor. It's better if you have one or two master jars of grain spawn to use in G2G transfers, instead of constantly borrowing from the next generations to make more. Make sense?

I had been thinking of this but I have no Idea...I wanted to respond but did not want to give bad info.
Now how about if you isolate a good strain on a dish, would that extend it, or transfer to a dish every few jars to isolate...

I'm not really sure on that, whether it would actually be considered returning to point zero or not. I do know that you won't know if the isolate is a good performer until it's actually fruited out--rhizo or cottony looking.

I believe its not a good idea to go past 4 generations because then it gets very weak.

Word! Always keep stock cultures!
-------------------- Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

Ok I have some 2nd generation jars colonized. (Only one G2G tranfer) and I plan on doing another g2g with those jars to some fresh jars. I really don't want any mutants or have my yield affected. Is this still a good idea? Is there an advantage to starting with fesh spores?
