Questions about hockey

I'm currently spending an unprecendented amount of time playing EA's NHL 2005 and though I've played through an entire 82 game season, there is still several dot and tittles about NHL hockey that I don't get.
First, what exactly is Icing? I notice this is called whenever I send the puck behind the opposition's net.
Second, what does a "Clinched Playoff spot/Division title/Conference mean? It seems these markers appear near the end of the season on the team standings. While I suspect clinched playoff spot means that a team is guaranteed a playoff appearance before the regular season tallies, I'm not exactly sure what clinched division title and clinched conference means.
Third, what exactly is "penalty killing"? While I'm the 3rd best team in the league, I apparently have the worse penalty killing percentage in the league at only 68%.
Well, that's all.
Thanks.

Icing - sending the puck from centerline past opposing goal line. If you send it all the way and the other team touches it before you, it's icing.
Penalty killing - when you have a player in the penalty box, and the other team fails to score during this advantage, you have killed the penalty.

Forgot your other question...
There are two conferences, East and West. If you clinch the conference, you are going to the finals.
Inside each conference, there are three divisions. In the East there is the Atlantic, Northeast, and Southeast. In the West there is the Central, Northwest, and Pacific. If you clinch the division you will be playing in the next round(trying to win the conference).

Hard to say, but I like Detroit or Buffalo for it currently.

On Beginner and Easy mode, yea. That's not really fun though, winning every game with 6+ goals. I play on Medium mode, which is fairly balanced and each game can go either way. I dread the playoffs, though. There are two teams in my conference that I have been unable to defeat in the regular season and they have play off spots. It's doubtful I'll win this round, but if I apply myself Lord Stanley's mug will be mine in a few weeks time when I go through another season.

Yea, they have a unique fighting system. You can only fight if someone on your team is challenged to a fight by someone on the opposition. Also, if you win the fight the team chemistry and morale of the opposition goes down somewhat, and vise versa if you loose a fight. It's always interesting when the two goalies go at it, I have to wonder how that spark flew when they're at opposite ends of the rink for the entire game.
