Question about jars.

So I mosey over to the store tonight to pick up some supplies and start looking at the jars. The store has no half-pint jars but they have 1/4 pint jars (4oz) Well to me, they looked WAY too small to be worth it, so I sprung for the full pint wide mouth (outward taper) jars.
I also picked up brown rice because I was planning on using pf cakes ->a verm-coir casing.
The question is this...can I just multiply the measurements on the BRF and verm mixture to compensate for the larger jar size?
This is my first time, so I am trying to keep it simple. (ie. no grain or poo or whatnot)

Absolutely you can, just always double check the math and your measurement.

I really appreciate the time you old farts (joke cause I am older than most of you, I'll bet) take to help us new guys out. I try not to ask too many stupid questions (that have been answered thousands of times) How am I doing

Don't forget though, the bigger the jar, the longer colonization takes.
Also, don't pack the substrate too tight in the jar or colonization will also take longer.
Good luck!

haha i feel so young now... how OLD is everybody??
and you could always have gone with plastic containers... theyre cheaper and in my opinion wayyy better since they keep the temp constant if you dont have such a great setup... just make sure the lids are nice and tight

When doing cakes out of pint jars my friend used to have a lot of trouble with them stalling at like 75% colonized.

so would the general consensus be that 1/2 pint jars are the ideal size for cakes?

I'd say that if you are a total noob (not you per se) and are doing cakes for the first time, you should follow the rules and get 1/2 pint jars.
If you are like me and have read ever single page of tek information here 5 time, you may feel more comfortable upgrading, tweaking or changing the techniques. The are written the way they are for a reason.

Yeah, Ive read the Tek's a couple of times, but Ive never grown. I'm just getting a setup going, so yeah, Ill stick with cakes and stick to the book for now definitely.
