if i read correctly, it would fit about 7 quart jars. anyone familiar with this brand? feedback? anyothers that i should consider buying over this?
also, i had this page bookmarked from a longwhile back, it's 100 syringes for a cheap price. http://ryvmed.com/detail.aspx?ID=26
-- will the size of these needles be fine for inoculation?

It's fine, but you can get one used for cheaper.

I just bought this kind: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...Y_BIN_Stores_IT
I've only done 1 run with it, so I hesitate to recommend it yet, but it is in the same size and price range of the one you're looking at. All American makes some great models, and Jaeger recently said his 21qt AA can hold TEN quarts... for about twice the price as the one in my link, though.
The Presto model has a gauge, the mirro does not. AA also has a gauge I believe.
21g needles should not be used for LC- will be way too small. I think it would be fine for spores though.

18 or 16 gauge and 1.5" long
You'll find 21g is too thin if you start to deal with Liquid Cultures [LCs] (which you will), and will tend to get myc chunks stuck in them. http://ryvmed.com/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=32 Here's a 50 pack of 20cc syringes with 18g 1.5" from the same site for 5 bucks cheaper. You only get half the number of syringes, but each syringe holds twice as much.

lots of people complain about micros I would avoid them. I have an older model of that 23 quart presto that I picked up for $20, and I love it. Everyone on here seems to swear by the All Americans though.

I have a well cared for AA 941 (sterilizer). That is was made in the late 1950's, or mid 60's.
It functions as good as the day it was brand new. It has had almost monthly use, for near 50 years. It's value today, is as high, or higher than when it was made. Never ever had one single problem with it.
THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT AA PC'S.
Meaning, you just cannot find, or buy a better PC.

This is the PC I have, it kicks ass, Agar is right as usual. You can accommodate 14 jars in there, if you can afford it get an AA it's well worth it

BTW I have those same exact syringes and so far I had no problems with either LC or spores

I don't want something used. If you can afford new I prefer it.

$$ isn't too much of an issue, i'd like a quality product. i do think i'll go with aa, i've used their products in the past.
what is the difference between and pressure canner and cooker? their descriptions are identical, so is the price.
--also, the base of the cookers look huge, i don't want heat to spread out and burn the base around my stove. i do believe my stovetop is ceramic as well, the burners i mean. i may have to look into getting a smaller cooker

You wrote about some concern about ruining your stove. I also have a glass, flat topped stove that I just paid alot for and don't want to ruin. So I went to walmart, and bought a 'turkey deep frying' kit. Basically u get a nice propane burner/stand and a nice stainless steel pot. The only conceivable problems are heat regulation and the ever present 'fire risk'. If you don't want to do this, you can buy a single 'plug into the wall' electric burner. They're not too expensive if memory serves.

They aren't, I got mine for $15 from Kmart and it can get a PC well beyond 15psi.

what wattage burner are you using for your pressure cooker?
As for pressure cookers, I've found presto to be much better quality than some of the ones out there, that's for sure! Good fit, good safety, good pressure, loses a lot less water when cooking, etc. Of course, we are talking about shopping on the cheap here I am sure that there are other brands that will be worth the extra money but IME if it has the capacity you want the presto shouldn't shortchange ya (I'm on my 6th pressure cooker, this last one is presto and haven't had to replace it yet)
