Undesired Pinning on Rye Berries
    #530520 - 01/24/02 09:05 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

I have a filter patch bag full of colonized rye berries. Due to the circumstances, they have been fully colonized for weeks and now I finally plan on mixing it with compost. When I looked at it today, I noticed a few tiny pins growing from the rye berries. When I mix it with the compost, will the mycellium colonize the compost or will it just try to fruit right away without spreading? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When given a nutrient source, the mycelium is programmed to revert back to the vegetative state. Make sure if the pins are large enough to take them out because they could cause contamination.

If poss, cut down air exchange/light, and increase temp. That should do the trick.
But yes, if there are any reasonably developed pins, pull them off.
