i wanted to take a syringe full of spores, take a vile of honey that i got from coffee bean and wipe down the plastic outside of the vile with rubbing alchole.....then stick the vile and suck up some honey into the vile and incubate the syringe.....this is so that i can find out if the spores actually are working and save some jars from doing them again....think it will work?
 one for the guys....=p

Can't say either or, but give it a shot (no pun intended). Try not to get too much honey.

why would you think your spores wouldnt work? I wouldnt dirty a clean syringe for the reasons you listed. Spores are cheap, free if you can find some generous people, dont spend time worrying if spores are viable. If they are they'll work, if they're not its just 15 bucks for more.

What about agar? You could germinate the spores to agar and isolate the healthy myc, make sure there aren't any contams, yadda yadda, then make an LC with the healthy myc isolate.
And how the hell did you get her to agree to do that?? I had trouble reading your full question, I kept getting distracted.

Now there's a head trip pic.
As for the honey, I don't get why some people use honey. Maybe I have more learning to do. What I've heard is that honey is a natural anti-biotic. Meaning it likes to kill microscopic life. In fact, that is why bees make it: so they have clean food to eat in the winter/spring. That might be a good thing in our case, but alas, it might be a bad thing as well. Perhaps spores are impervious to the anti-biotic nature of the honey.

Note: Near the bottom of that article is a reference to fungi.

Organic honey can be added to water at 3-4% in order to make a sugar water, nutrient solution within which mycelium will grow. This is called a Liquid Culture [LC] and is an alternative to spore syringes. They're actually better because it's an indefinite source, as all you have to do once you run low is just inject more myc into more honey water and it'll grow again. And because inocculating with LCs cuts off the germination period you have to wait when inocculating with spores.

I see the error in my thinking. I thought their were checmical compounds in honey that were anti-microbiol. Turns out it has to do with surface pressure and all that stuff. So I guess the moral of the story is that in your case, you just have to make sure they honey is diluted enough to not be anti-microbiol. Read the liquid culture teks and you will learn alot.
