I have a Verm only casing,from brf cakes, the mushies took forever to colonize, but finally,FINALLY all seems well.

(Patience indeed!!)

I made a mistake, though. My casing is in a clear container, and the shroomies aren't growing out the top at all, but all over the sides.( ala hippie tek, dark blue & all) In order to harvest the first flush, I'm gonna have to remove the casing, and probably ruin it.

I am not willing to lose this Mycelia tho, I waited too long.

After reading, I think I have a plan. All I need is confirmation that I understand.

I will pick, and ruin the casing. I will take the Mycelia, and soak it in puified water overnight to rehydrate it.

I will take some cow patties I have, and cook them in aluminum foil packets in the oven, at 180 degrees for two hours. I will use purified water to moisten.

I will take the pattie material and crumble it with the mycelia, in a container, like a pie pan or a non clear tupperware bowl.I will cover, and wait five days at the most, as it is likely it will colonize quickly.

I will crumble this material and will be able to re case with it in straight verm.

Am I straight on this, or already high???

It sounds like your already way high, but do not fret my friend, all is well...

First of all, the reason the shrooms are sprouting all over the place instead of up is this: These mushies are Photo-Sensitive. Which means they will grow in the general direction of a light source, any light source. So you need to block the light from the bottom and sides of your fruiting container.

I`ll bet if you crumble that casing with some dung the mycelia will RACE through it !!!!.. I`ve seen  some of my dung substrates colonize in 24-36 hours.Dampen the dung and mix with the crumbled casing in a zip lock bag. Then cover with saran with a few holes in it and some tinfoil to block light.Peek at it in 12 hours,. you`ll be amazed. At 24 or 36 hours remove the saran and foil and case with verm or 50/50 and watch the magic  little pinheads appear in 5 to 7 days:)
