frustration of alternate realities...
    #523890 -

Whenever I experiment with psychoactives and alternate realities, something always haunts my knowledge progress and makes me unable to progress in my study and examination of these "alternate realities".

When I am under the influence of something, the sense of a new way is always prominent. Even on lesser psychadelics, like weed, I cannot deny that Something is there. Under the influence I make all sorts of hypothesis, and all of them eventually get to the fact that I am experiencing a taste of a different existence.
Now my problem comes when I try to examine this. Whenever I try to think about the way things "are" in that reality, I always remind myself that in this reality, the very nature of things has changed.
Example: Wow, that joke was really funny to my normal self, but not as funny to this realities perception. Perhaps that what constitutes humour is different in that reality. Oh wait, suppose they don't even get the concept of humour. Whoa, what if the very concept of a concept doesn't make sense to this reality. What if everything we know is nothing to it. But what if it doesn't understand nothing? But what if understanding isn't an issue there... Etc.

Have any of you had similar reasoning problems when dealing with the change you feel under the influence.
Like anything describing a trip, I didn't do a half-decent job at getting my point across, because language is such a limiting factor. Somethings we feel can not be described using language, but I have tried to get my point across.
But what if there is no such thing as making a point of what you are saying there... :D

"I didn't do a half-decent job at getting my point across, because language is such a limiting factor."

Might this be the sole difference between the realities you have experienced? That they are based on a different language? Language is after all the operating system of our brain/mind, thus it imposes it's own structure on the world we percieve.

I think I know what you speak of. The varieties in which one can view the world are far greater than one would imagine.

Ever heard someone talking while brushing his teeth? Running while washing one's feet? Eating while having one's stomach pumped? Reading while being treated by an optometrist? These and other similar efforts are not half as a futile as trying to reason while on psychedelics.

And your study of these so called "alternative realities"... Should I compare that with say studying one's reflection in different mirrors? "Look my head is so big in this mirror, and my hands are so short in that mirror, hmmm, what might that mean?"

Cheers, have fun!

djchilxxn... you are not the chosen one :) hehe

when you are in that other reality (of the mind), try exploring it instead of comparing it. I had to get over the fact that the realities werent the same. And thats obvious. The hard part is figuring out *why* they are different realities. :P You can spend alot of time thinking about that... but... youll be disappointed when you cant get the answer... like all of us! lol

An important lesson I`ve learnt is to make sure you have something to think about *before* you trip. Otherwise your trip will likely be useless. Do you have a problem you want to solve. Then study it alot while sober. If you cant figure it out, trip and see what you discover ;)

Trips give me abstract solutions to abstract problems. I write them down, and analyze them later. More often than not, the solutions make sense. If not, they give me a fresh perspective, and that is helpful too.

Weed and shrooms are great for computer modelling and programming :) :) :)

I agree with you on that is usless to try to compare the diferent realities, is better to explore them.
My take is that in normal reality you get info on 28K, and on shrooms u are using a T1 line.
is a good advise to think of a problem before, but for me never works, when I am triping I allways get the same realization, they are no real problems just imaginary ones : )

I know EXACTLY what you mean .
Last night I was smoking many different types of hash and started pondering the ultimate validity of any human thought and came eventually to the conclusion that they are all valueless and meaningless in an truly objective sense .
Maybe I was wrong hehe- who knows aye ?

Maybe instead of having something to think about before the trip, try having nothing to think about before and during the trip... =) O, how I wish I could.

so you haven't experienced the lucid mind. try to fry and meditate. that may help. you're right though. best to go into a trip with as little baggage as possible.

studying a topic and determining to think about it are quite different. the despair of the meaninglessness of words is a hard thing to get over, and maybe you never will. but look what good words have accomplished...we have the wisdom of the wisest of from centuries long past, from people well acquainted with the problems of expressing the abstract with human language. are you literate? take advantage of that. you can read any major work on philosophy or religion in english these days.

when i trip it just all clicks for me...the meaning of the bible, aristotle, kant, confusius, spinoza, and whoever else started making some sense. after all they're all talking about the same thing...life, you know, the big trip.

words are enough for the matters in which words matter.
good luck.

Firguring out why their are different realities is like figuring out why their is space.

> the despair of the meaninglessness of words is a hard thing to get over, and maybe you never will

this doesnt trouble me.  language is fuzzy, but within the overall fuzziness lies meaning.  also, i can make new words, talk in structured ways, etc.

language is a tool used by our brains to communicate.  it is not the only tool we could use.  technology may one day make it possible to communicate thoughts from one brain to another.

>after all they're all talking about the same thing...life

agreed. after all, life is all we know, life is all we are

life is a pattern
