WooHoo! I got hpoo (again)

OK, after carting 100 lbs of the wrong stuff to my house, I have disposed of it, returned to the horse farm, and got a big tub of the fresh stuff.
I have it laying out on a tarp, about 1-2 inches deep. I went ahead and broke the muffins up. The water hose won't reach, if there's no rain, will it still be ready to store in two weeks or so? Or should I cart a few buckets of water out there? I'm also a little worried about it blowing away... Would it be a good idea to place a perforated tarp over it, and let it dry completely the last few days?

I thought when you lay out poop you're supposed to dry it out. When it doesn't smell like ammonia and you're ready to spawn, thats where the water comes in. If you think it'll blow away, tarp it up. What'll your neighbors think of horse shit in their backyard hahahah.

Well, I've read that water will leach out the ammonia, I figured dry air would serve the same purpose so long as the muffins are broken up. The muffins are broken up pretty good, but there's still little pieces all throughout, it would be easier to complete the job once everything is completley dry.
Edit: I was worried about the neighbors, so I called a friend with lots of land "Mind If I lay some horse shit out near your house?"

You don't need to wet it. You can dry it in a shed if you want! Just let it dry, shread, and pasturize!

I prefer to leech it, I soak it all in a tub for 24 hrs, drain off water then dry it....

If it's truly fresh manure it needs to be leached. Simply drying it out isn't going to remove ammonia from urine. When most people get a hold of manure it's been sitting in a field for awhile and nature, through snow and rain, has leached it for us.
I highly recommend you wet the manure down, let it dry, and repeat 2-3 times. When you can smell nothing but an organic dirt scent, your good to go.

I figure all the leeching that I need to do is done when pasteurizing. Ammonia is volatile, so if there is any left at all, it will be gone by the time I take the Poo out of the water.
EDIT: well I didn't see wronguy's post. Do that Just seems like you would be washing away some of the goodies!

Suggest you buy or borrow a length or 2 of garden hose, so you can get a water hose to it. If it's not that far away from a faucet? Then, spray it down, a few times. As for it blowing away. Cover with an old bed sheet, screen door mesh, or landscape cloth, if you have them.

Thanks all for the replies. I don't want to half ass my first hpoo score, so I'll be buying some garden hose tomorrow. The poo was in a pile about 2-3 feet high, but was very recently placed there. Lots of muffins, lots of ammonia smell, and still green. There seemed to be a lot of sawdust, but after breaking everything up, it looks just like the pics
It's funny, the dude that's letting me dry it mentioned that he knew where I could get some more if I needed it. Ask and you shall recieve. Everyone wants to help me grow prize tomatoes

its not hard to find old poo. i really recommend looking harder for aged poopy. it will save you a lot of the time and hassle of leaching.

If you can find manure that looks like this pic, you're golden. Pun intended.
