Moisture Content & FAE

In looking back at my first failure I was thinking of two things could contribute to it. The first being the moisture content of my casing mixture. I used a 60/40 verm/coir mix and then I added water until I got a few drops out when I squeezed. Then I microwaved it, waited for it to cool then applied it. After 3 days I thought it looked dry when I checked on it and decided to mist it. Now when doing a monotub you should just be able to case it let it colonize and let it go right. You shouldn't have to open it until harvest time. I believe the problem was I microwaving made the casing sort of dry. Then I overmisted. So what is a good way to measure moisture before sterilizing.
Now on to the second part, FAE. The size of my tub was 66 qts. So that comes to 16.5 gallons. I placed 10lbs of poo with about 2lbs of spawn into this tub. I drilled a total of 8 holes. 2 on each side of the tub. These holes were 3/4" and I stuffed pretty good w/polyfil. My question on this part is how big should the holes be and how many. I would also like to know how much polyfill you stuff in the holes. After you stuff your holes is the polyfill nice and snug or is it sort of loose.
I believe that where I went wrong is my first tub was a 10 gallon with 5lbs of poo and 1lb of spawn. I had 8 - 1" holes stuffed loosely with polyfill. My caps were always cracking and shit so I decided this time around to make the holes smaller and stuff more polyfill. I guess I should of tried one or the other because I figure that is the biggest contributor to my contamination. I didn't account for the fact that it was a bigger tub. SO i think i am going to try 1" holes again in this tub and see what happens this time around.
This has been my first failure in mycology so I don't feel too bad about it. I am just a little bit upset that it had to happen on my biggest project. Why couldn't i have screwed up on a smaller project. But it is all good.
~Peace Out

Sup sup fool.. from my knowledge, moisture content is straight when you can't squeeze anymore water out of it. The way I do my casings is oversaturate, then squeeze excess, then PC. Let it cool and then apply it. Mist it till it glistens.
If you are using a monotub then I would suggest maybe a total of 4 1" holes, moderately packed with polyfil.
