If i were to put a mesh screen across a tube on a vacuum cleaner and stick a bunch of mushrooms in their would it dry them super fast? I need a good way to dry mushrooms. I can get damp rid but i dont know about a fan set up.... any other methods?

well I know absalutely nothing about drying but a food dehydtrator seems to be the best and an idea I just thought up could be turn the oven on to 100 degrees and let it preheat. Then open it and lay the mushrooms down in the middle thing and blow a fan in it for a wile O.o i uno though if that will work or not so get more advice. But food dehydtrator is the best way .

lol Buy a food dehydrator or put them in front of a space heater/fan combo...then toss them into a desiccant chamber.

All you are doing is fanning them with a vac. Just pulling in the air instead of pushing

cover them with a black shirt, hang a lamp that generates heat over the shirt about 2ft or so (use ur judgement). the mild heat will heat the shirt and heat the air under it, drying the shrooms fast.
theres a tek on here for it

the kind that agar posted can be scaled down to only one tray and that is only like 2-3" tall. and if you dont have space for that then you need to buy space some where

what im saying about the vacuum cleaner "For those of you who laugh at me and dont understand first grade physics" is that since it is a narrow tube it will move air alot faster then it would across a larger area, im moving air at high speed instead of large volume of air slowly

Wow, imagine running a vacuum for 18-36 hours....Not to mention the motor would burn out after one batch.

do you have the room to take a milk crate, set it on the floor then take a box fan ($12 @ wally world) set it on the milk crate horizontally and facing upwards (so it blows air UP)???
if so, one of these will dry a SHITLOAD (you may need 1-3 IME) of fresh shrooms within 24 hours. then you put the 80% dry shrooms in a damp-rid chamber.
if you run it @ medium speed, it wil dry even faster. the shrooms have a tendency to kinda stick to the plastic fan grates as they dry and wont blow around as much as you think they would.
i even tried taking vinyl mesh screen and screwing it down tight to the fan --> so there was a mesh screen covering the face of the fan and the smaller shrooms couldn't fall through. but this proved to be un-necessary...
*** one thing i left out ***
when using a horizontal box fan, you just find a way to set the shrooms across the grate/pattern on the face of the fan.
any shrooms/abhorts that are too small to sit across the grating-- just set on the plastic circle in the middle of the fan. enough indirect air will circulate around them to dry them at the same rate as the bigger shrooms ON the fan.

sigh... people really need to read up on the physics of it....... If its high pressure instead of high volume it should cut the time down tremendously..... Down to like 1 hour or 45 minutes in my speculation.
You could make a mesh that fits down the tupe and it ketches the mushrooms....
