True Grunge

okay, i've heard a lot of the stuff out of the Seattle grunge scene.
i've heard Temple of the Dog, L7, Mother Love Bone... all that stuff.
the only band that has really sparked and held my interest is AiC.
can anyone suggest any bands that have all the characteristics of a good grunge band? you know, sloppy clothes, messy haircuts, "dirty" guitar work, drug and alcohol abuse... which becomes prevelant in their lyrics.
no, i'm not looking for drug and alcohol lyrics so i can feel cool... those kind of lyrics are just usually what i feel the greatest connection to.
so... anyone?

i don't like rap much, but i've got to admit... i enjoy listening to that old school, hardcore, cop killer rap every once in a while.
why exactly don't you like grunge?
if it's because kurt cobain was a whiny bitch. i don't really see why people say that. he was a dude with problems like every one else.

Lately I've really getting back into Nirvana and AiC, it does the soul good now and then.
The only rap I really truly LOVE is old school eighties rap like Grandmaster Flsah.

alive, but barely breathing, i'd say.
i haven't met very many people who even know what the term grunge means or refers to.
i didn't like grunge until i listened to AiC.
Layne had a lot on his mind and it helps a lot to know someone felt like you, methinks.

I know they are kinda main stream grunge (or so people say)
but pearl jam man.
My fave band of all time, they got out of the grunge kinda way a while ago, but still, some great albums, just download No code and Yield and just watch the greatness of the albums...
Other than that, there isn't much left. Screaming tree's maybe?

eh, i've heard screaming trees. didn't like them much.
pearl jam is alright.
i dunno, i just don't feel like a lot of bands had the heart that Layne put into it. he seemed like he had really been there and knew what he was singing about.

Sunny Day Real Estate is NOT Grunge...they're the birth of emo.

They conceived emo after eloping with Slint and having a tryst with Yo La Tengo, much to the disappointment of their grunge parents.

Mad Season.
Not really grunge, but all their members were grungers. Its got some of the best songs I've ever heard on it. River of Deceit, Wake Up, Long Gone Day, and I Don't Know Anything. That last song sounds exactly like AIC.
