So, who has gotten kicked out of the house?

You had to move out and get an education by yourself with no help? How did you do it? I bet you couldn't get a loan easily for school so you had to work first and save up for school right? What other options did you take? I really want to know what routes there are to take. Any input would be great.

Get a job. Re-evaluate your priorties. School now comes second to surviving in the 'real' world.

You could take cherrybom's advice, thats definatly one route.
however, when you are 18, independante, with minimal funds, there are a LOT of places you can get money for school from. The government will generally help you out, and the school itself will definatly give you a good chunk of money.
I know a kid with a 2.8 GPA in highschool who scored a 1030 on his SAT and ended up with 90% of his tuition to a state college paid for through the school and the government.
Theres money out there, you just gotta go lookin for it, bro

Well I'd go for Cherrybomb.
I wouldn't want to be worrying about school right now... It's time to go make a change in your life right now. Time to get your feet on the ground and stop worrying about school... School can wait for a year that's nothing. It's about getting some experience in life right now!

Go to school NOW.
Screw all these people who say wait. Every year you wait lowers the chance you will EVER go back. Trust me. I'm a senior in college, and I've had to sit and watch my friends from HS make money for 3 years now while I've been dead broke. If I had started working right out of HS, I'd never go to school. Once you get used to the money, its Sooooooooo hard to give up.
Right now is your best opportunity to go to college. If you live in the US and arent getting support from your parents, the government will give you a great deal on loans to pay your tuition/housing.
Seriously. Go To School. You will thank yourself later.

find the biggest player in town and offer yourself up as his personal running dog. keep it real for a few years and make him dependant on your ruthless and dedicated service. when he is king youll be a duke, and that ain't bad.

Thanks for the input guys - I appreciate it. I will look more into loans. I am thinking about Aviation Management so who knows maybe joining the Air Force isn't a bad idea. Just a thought though - I need to do more research.

I agree with Madtown.
If you don't go to school now, you'll probably never go. Student loans are abundant. Take out a bunch of loans and get a part-time job while at school.
There are lots of opinions about college, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to gain employment if you have little experience and/or no education.
Also, college is a nice experience. You'll learn a lot about yourself in addition to what you gain from classes.

I was in your situation exctally.
High school drop out who was kicked out of my house when I was 17. I got a job at pizza hut, saved two grand while staying at various places. Bought my first car with cash (shittie car). Started delevering pizza which makes alot more money (~15$/hr), which allowed me to get a $360 studio apt. and attend community college without loans.
If you work hard you can do it all on your own.

FAFSA, bank loans, grants, scholarships... there's money there to pay for alot of your college stuff. I've had to do exactly what you're talking about... I was out of the house at 17. I got a job waiting tables. It sucked, but it paid my rent on my ghetto house. I then had the bright idea to join the military to help me pay for school.... DON'T. That was not my brightest idea. It was a 4 year long waste of time... I did get to see some crazy shit, but I would've been done with school, making decent money if I had just looked into financial aid a bit harder. Just go find yourself a little econo-car, get a pizza delivery job (i know sounds dumb, but i made around $13-$15 an hour delivering pizza during my first few years in college) as they can work around your school schedual, and get started in classes ASAP. You'll be glad you didn't wait when your 22 and still have years of being young to get a masters or a PhD...

Ah.. the difference between kids whose parents support them, and kids who have to "make it on their own". A great example of "Life's not fair"
Should you acheive half the level of success of someone who has their parents full support, it will require twice the effort it required them. It'll never be recognized that you were to any disadvantage, or had to "fight your way up".. Unfair? Get used to it. Its hard as all hell to support yourself, and find time for several years of college.. both things are stressful, and compounding them will be one of the most difficult things you'll ever do.
Right now: 1. Get a job, get a place, get stable. 2. Start saving. Be frugal as all hell, don't blow your pay. Figure out how much extra you need saved to survive in a month working minimal (~15/wk) hours and then count the "months saved for" as your bank acct slowly grows. 3. As was stated above, there is free money to be found. 4. Enroll your ass, and do it up like you've never applied yourself to anything before. Always remember that its coming out of your pocket to do this, and that you want to do it. School is a much greater priority when its all your dime, and you keep it in mind.
That said, don't give up! Looking back on success that you know is all your own, and not the result of mommy and daddy's money is a great feeling, and you'll never know anything sweeter. Best of luck, man!

the very last... truct me when I say that doing a military job, having some sort of social life, and going to school doesn't work... plus the GI Bill isn't just a lump sum check to pay for school... they dole that out on a scale for the school you attend.
Military= very last act of desperation.

I got kicked out when I was 18. I got a crappy apartment and a crappy job, had to sell drugs to make ends meet.
Then I started going to community college. Once my parents saw that I was serious about educating myself (to the point where I was willing to do it on my own dollar), they stepped in and started helping me out a bit.
These days, I am happy to say that I am off my parents payroll, a college graduate, with no debt and a pretty decent net worth for my age.
So my advice is work hard, learn as much as you can, and jump at any opportunity to better your situation that comes along. I used to drive a shitty-ass beater, live in the ghetto, and feed myself on a few dollars a day. Now I eat only the finest cuisine, live uptown, and drive a pimp ass ride. So don't lose hope, its really not that hard to make it in America.

also look into grants, it's like a loan but doesnt need to be repaid, you mentioned already one of the best options already, the military, the coffee sucks but the pay is decent and you'll get that tuition money plus a bit of extra

What I mean pris, is that it all just depends on your attitude. Thats the door in life. If you keep a good attitude, and dont let your shorcomings befall you, then you will make it. If you do what you have to do, and can be happy about it, then lifes not so bad.

Plus it just feels good to know that you made it by your own hard work... without having to ride the 'rents bank account. I have never like borrowing money from anyone, but taking the tens of thousands I've already spent on school from my parents would just make their lives so fucking difficult that I'd feel like a shithead for taking it.
Self made people are more in touch with the hard knocks life deals and how to handle them. We don't crack so easy.

The thing is; it's really isn't that hard to pay for school yourself.
You take out loans, and then at the end you set up a meeting with a counselor to work out a payment schedule.
It's really not a tremendous burden to make a payment once a month. Now if you have to walk to class in the snow (going uphill both ways) thats more of a hard knock life.

Being slightly aboriginal and living in Canada means I don't have to pay for College/Uni. =D
I was kicked out of my home when I was a teenager, and I still don't have my diploma, so I am a ways off from that goal yet. Hope everything works okay for you, sounds like you'll be prepared to do what you need to do.
