Bamboo as a fruiting substrate?
    #5298215 - 02/14/06 06:30 AM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Has anybody here used bamboo debris or wood as a fruiting substrate? I'm thinking in particular of tropical oyster types because some of them are found on bamboo in the wild, but I'd also like to hear about experiences with other species. Thanks.

Haven't tried it, but I suspect that it would work wonderfully for oysters, with only pasteurization. The younger, less woody, more grass-like (like under 2 feet) may be better. I bet it will all work. Harvest some chop it up, pasteurize inoculate, and let us know how it goes. We grow lots of bamboo on our farm, but I just haven't had time to try it out. This post has jogged that curiousity though, so maybe next time I see them harvesting some, I'll ask for a garbage bag full...

Thanks, I'll update when I try this out in a few weeks. Anybody else have any experience with this?
