A lot of people in OTD own guns. Just today, there was a thread about an AK47 that someone got.

I own a military class sniper rifle, though it has been locked in storage in the US since I moved to the Caribbean. I miss spending a few hours each weekend at the firing range. For me, there is nothing like target practice to get rid of stress. I used to be able to hit a tennis ball from 500 yards, pretty much every single shot.
Edit: Not a very good picture, but the only one I have of the rifle...

I've got a nice little collection going. Pistols, rifles, shotguns, crossbow, longbow, and compound bow.
Some of my favorites are my Sig P239 .40, Kimber Desert Warrior .45, Remington 700 and PTR-91.

Man i so wish i was in states.
Ok while we are on the subject i need you guys to help me find my favourite sniper rifle. I forgot the name i know it is 338 Loupa Mag (sp) ammo, it is not the old ERMA 1000 or whatever but it is even better, it is the best sniper rifle in the world, all i remember about it is that it got removable barrel and that its luopa mag 338 and it look s very good.
Also anyone can tell me where to look find some in the UK? I know shit is around, last week i seen o n tely they found loads of 1911s in some flat.

Lapua* ERMA SR100*
There's a couple manufacturers that make rifles that will take the cartridge in question. You have to be a more specific. But are you sure you don't mean the ERMA SR100. Barrels are easily swapped from 7.62 NATO to .300 Win Mag to .338 Lapua.

My entire house is loaded with rifles and pistols. If I had to guess Id say we have about 15 rifles and 10 pistols. Nothing automatic, except for my dads pistol he can carry on him, its semi auto.

Sorry, but those two things do not go together for the same reason that bolt action will always be more accurate than an semi/automatic. Not to say that you cannot make a very accurate rifle with a removable barrel, but if you put the same effort into a rifle with a non-removable barrel, it would be a bit more accurate.

Because of the velocity of the bullet, a supressor on a rifle really doesn't do much to reduce sound, but has a drastic, negative, effect on accuracy.

you can buy them through private sale, checking publications like the news paper or local trader publications like the Atlanta advertizer can yeild soem good deals anything through a licensed dealer is going to be tracked
Suess, you may be suprised at the amount of reduction the supressors have on a .308, it doesnt eliminate it but it sounds like a .22LR, all I'm looking for is not to disturb my neighbors durring target practice.

> Seuss, you may be suprised at the amount of reduction the supressors have on a .308
I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think it drops from around 140 dB down to around 120 dB. Makes a .308 shot sound about as loud as a .22. It also takes away a good one to two moa of accuracy, if not more. Supression can't do anything about the supersonic shock wave created by the bullet exceeding the speed of sound.
From a sniper point of view, I don't understand why one would want supression. Accuracy and distance are a snipers friends. A sniper is trained to position for the shot such that the sound of the shot is reflected from multiple angles around the target making it impossible (for a human ear) to tell where the shot originated. I would much rather make a kill from 800 yards without supression rather than 300 yards with supression. The return fire being my concern.
Of course, I doubt that either of us are out actively sniping... you may have a very valid reason for wanting (or needing) supression...
Heh... just read the rest of your post...
> all I'm looking for is not to disturb my neighbors durring target practice

you do loose some accuracy initialy when you hang an extra 5-8lbs from the end of your barrel but with good machine work, a quality supressor and a good scope you'll find that you have repeatability, if you have a 1/2" drop at 150yds with the can, follow up with a couple more shots, if you maintain the same sort of grouping as you did without, you're in business, just rezero your scope
Quote:

from a sniper POV, a supressor is poop for the reasons you've listed and more, no one wants the extra weight or the setup time, the supressor for me is a convienience to keep the neighbors happy, they're used to a great deal of shooting but I try to be polite, no shooting after sunset, no shooting their live stock or the dogs, one night one of the local cops stopped by on a noise complaint when I was sighting in the new scope, he enjoyed shooting the rifle and my .45... I wasnt in his jurisdiction and the same woman calls about everything including dogs barking

Now there's a whole lotta gadgetry loaded on one expensive package. I don't know how far you plan on shooting, but I've put $2500 into my .300 mag buying a cold rolled and machined bull barrell, a nice lupold adjustable scope, a nice polymer stock with the pistol style grip, and a reloader so I can make my own distance shells. That rifle is accurate out to 800 yards without to much tweaking... I haven't tried shooting it any further than that and don't see much reason to. 800 yrds is a long fuckin' shot and is hard enough to get right. Having an effective range of over 1000 yards won't mean much to most shooters, as making those kind of shots takes a lot of time to learn trajectory calc and windage adjustments anyhow. You won't just be able to plop down one of those super rifles and make 1000 yrd shots..... although it does look pretty cool.
-------------------- ........someday I'll find it.
