What would happen...

...if rather than taking a BRF cake and creating liquid inoculant you went ahead and inoculated jars of birdseed with a syringe of spores from a vendor?? Is it necessary to make inoculant from already colonized cakes?? Is it OK to inoculate with a straight spore syringe that was obtained from a reputable vendor??

Yes, you can inocculate jars of WBS with a spore syringe. You can also inocculate a jar of liquid medium to make a Liquid Culture [LC], you really don't have to mess with a BRF cake at all.

Yeah, they quit selling the crooked ones. The plunger kept getting stuck in the bend.

Hmmm, that's what I did but it is over 2 weeks to even see a shade of whiting in the jars. I used spores that were sitting in the fridge for over a year. Also, it is only about 70 degrees F sitting on top of my hot water heater.

Will it just take longer because it is not warm enough?? IN the past it hasn't taken this long for the jars to colonize.

Thanks!!
