Using Coco Coir for a bulk grow with WBS

I'm planning on doing two double tubs, each with 8 quart jars of WBS. the tubs are 49qt 24.9 x 17.2 x 9 inches so by my calculations, I would need about 30 quarts of substrate in the end to get the height to about 5 inches. So I'd be needing about 24 Quarts of coco coir if I'm not mistaken for each tub. I would gladly use hpoo (tennstud) over coir, but I'm afraid I won't get my order soon enough if I order now. It makes it even harder to bear because this amount of coco coir is probably going to cost me more money than the hpoo and it will require more time.
With all this coco coir, would there be any good way to sterilize it with what I have (a microwave, an 18qt PC, and jars)? If I were to sterilize by jars, I figure that would take a hell of a lot of time and jars .
Can anyone think of a good way for me to get this done with what I have?

coir is rather cheap. and it exspands a lot. I am sure that 20 bucks worth should do the job. Coir is rather clean by nature and you should only have to nuke it for two sessions of 2.5minutes consecitvely.

Like onetime said, you really won't need that much coir considering I think 1 2buck cube expangs to about 8 quarts or so if i'm not mistaken. I wouldn't really worry too much about sterilization too too much. Not that you shouldn't take the precaution but when I do 60/40 casings I never sterilize and never get any more/less contams than when I do.

The bed-a-beast bars that are sold in the pet place near me cost $8.50, should I only need two bars for both tubs?
It says on the label "This block yields 7-8 liters of bedding", and according to google conversions, 7-8 liters is about 7.4-8.5 quarts, so shouldn't I need more?

that sounds good a brick of that shit expands alot. I would go buy two and do one tub and see if one brick is enough. if it isnt use the other brick and go buy two more. You can also just go to a garden center and buy some worm castings. that would have more nutrition than the coir.

Sounds good onetime, I'll go out and get more. So for the sterilizing, should I get a decent size bowl (not too big for the microwave) and saran wrap? How long should I wait in between the 2 2.5min nukings? should I stir?
If there's a link to a microwave nuking tek that I should follow in my case, could you spare a link ?
You just made my day, I thought I was going to need many bars for each tub, I guess I screwed up with my calculations or with google somewhere along the way.

The osh near me has bags of worm castings, any idea how much I should buy? Should i mix the castings with anything else or just go straight castings spawned with WBS (casing aside of course)?

First you are talking Coir, now you are talking worm castings.
Worm castings once hydrated, will have the consistency of MUD. (mud is not a good thing, as substrate).
Mix some worm castings with the Coir, as SUBSTRATE. That will give your substrate a better consistency.
I would suggest you make the substrate mix (Coir & castings).
Then, bag it up & PASTEURIZE IT. Allow to cool. Then add spawn.

What ratio of castings to coir would be good?
I can use my PC as a pot to pasturize in, would this be much better than nuking? It would probably be a hassle to pasturize with an 18qt PC, no?

its easy to eyeball. A good thought when mixing substraights is "if i where a shroom whould i like to eat this" and that should help make a nice fluffy moist mixure. Really all you need is fillers for the castings. I would say close to 50/50 should be good. You want it kinda fluffy. Not soild to where it cant breath. maby a bit more coir like 60/40 coir/worm shit.

pasturizing would be sorta hard in my situation (no kitchen sink really, only bathroom sinks), only my 18qt PC, and my roommates would be pissed if i stunk the place up. So for the microwave, any specifics?

yea I was planning on it, I've got plenty of verm at my disposal. Any specifics on nuking times, stirring, cooling, etc.?

Nope. I just use a peroxide/water solution whenever water is called for. I sterilize my wbs, of coarse. And pasteurize my poo, but thats all.
