Well there was seemingly more thought put into it than there ever is in your post.
Would you care to elaborate on why you think it is ridiculous? I feel that I have a fairly good connection to my childhood memories and that psychedelic drugs have given me much insight into what I have forgotten as a youth.
I think people at large are absolutely clueless and you do nothing to support your claims. If you don't want to talk about it then don't type anything at all. If you have an opinion then state it.

It's rediculous because everyone HAS BEEN a child. How could you possibly not remember what it was like to 5-6 years old or older?

So you got beat as a child and have bad memories. This is not the same as what you went through, at least I assume you got beat by your various statements. This kid got scared, Im sure over dinner that night they were laughing about it. Get over it, stop trying to be the moral nanny.

The step-father should have some big ass mother fucker come up to him on the street and start yelling at him like he was going to whip his ass. Then, when the step-father gets really scared and pisses himself have the big dude laugh and show him he was just humiliated on video and will be shared on the internet.
I am guessing he won't think it nearly as funny.
Scaring the shit out of kids is only funny if you really don't like kids or have a Napoleonic complex.
I happen to like them at least enough not to traumatize them.
I'm sure the step-father was a scrawny bitch and felt like a real man for making a little boy cry.

hmm I don't know. I would consider that I have good recall and the details are still very vague to me.
Most people don't man, not at all.

nope. I was scared by a computer game though, it wasn't any scary than most other scary things.... but I was heavily traumatized by the shower scene in Psycho and developed a phobia of showers that lasted for a long time.
It brought my friend and I to tears.
I'm not getting over anything. If you simply saw the child reacting that way without understanding what happened all you would know is that something tremendously fucked up happened. I fail to see how people can look into his eyes, hear his cries, and feel anything other than empathy, sadness, or compassion.
I think this little clip is a good sort of test on desensitization.

So, you and your buddy watched this together and neither of you laugh... instead, you both start crying? I'm just making sure I understood that correctly.

Man some people are such pussies...I can't believe somene said the kid "completely broke down". The kid is how old? 5-6? He got scared. He cried and ran to his daddy. That's not breaking down. That's what kids do when they're scared. And I'm sure he's been scared worse in his life. For instance, he may have been lost once, or separated from his parents, and felt much more fear than that. Grow some balls. The kid will be fine.

That movie was semi-scary. It really made you cry though? My dad would scare the shit outta me like that, but it didnt "scar" me. Just taught me to be more skeptic and aware of my surroundings.
