Pilgrimage to Salt Lake City?

Some people say that it's the promised land... I think I'll go check it out.
The morning after a recent trip I was woken up by two Mormons knocking on my door. They gave me a card with a picture of a church on it. The back promised answers to lifes most significant questions....
I was headed out to Denver this summer anyways... and SLC is only a nature trek through the mountains away...

Utah is beautiful... SLC ain't bad... but there are prettier parts of Utah to visit.
If you plan on coming to have a Spiritual awakening... and answers... be sure to bring some acid.

The mormans are not people you want to get all wrapped up in dromi. they are crazy crazy people and they arent allowed to have any fun. No drinking, no drugs, no sex, u have to wear holy underware(read this as long sleeve pajamas with pants, and they will ask for all your money and keep right on asking even if your broke. Theres alot more crazyness to them im sure i just havent bothered to get that deep in their crazy culture. Utah may have been the promised land, but the mormons ruined that. Oh yea and they are racist. Peace

Cerv, I thought you were permabanned... nice to see you back!
Yeah, i'm not planning on running away and becoming a mormon! LOL! I just figure that it would be a great destination since I'll be in Denver and is beautiful wilderness between SLC and Denver.
I really would want to Visit the Anasazi ruins in SW Colorado, but it's almost just as far as SLC and once I got there I'd still be out in the middle of nowhere with only a bike for transportation!
And most of my Trek is going to be through NW Colorado along hwy 40. The Rainbow Gathering is in Denver this year and the end of the Gathering will be the beginning of my trek. I'll probably take about two weeks to hop from town to town on my bike while camping at all the national forests on the way. Last stop before SLC would be Flaming Gorge...
Oh, and don't worry, I plan to be well stocked with hallucinogens!

Don't worry blaze, I understand...

I am from Salt Lake City.
I have always believed SLC to be a pretty abnormally spiritual place. It is really hard for me to explain, and no one usually understands, except people who have lived there and left.
There seems to be sooo much emotion, and spiritual energy floating around the place.
I dont know what it is, but my guess is that it is because there is such a heavy mormon influence who prictise their own religious, and do it whole heartedly, and for the other people are are not mormon, are usually not to an extreme. There is not too much grey area in that place. You are either mormon, or NOT, and those who are NOT that I have known are usually grouped into catergories like extreme spiritual trippers, celtic, wichcraft, etc, etc.
While living in many places around the country, most places are based off people just trying to live their everyday lives...in salt lake, this is done, but the primary focus for most is religion. Whether it is at a LDS church, or taking LSD, it is happening.
I whole heartedly believe that there are some serious spiritual gateways there, and it is the kind of place that can make you or break you.
I had to leave, if i did not leave, i would have gotten in way over my head.
I dunno. I dont think I was ready for what utah had to offer me. I would like to go back someday. But like I said, its very hard to explain, but i definately believe in what i said in all honesty. It is one of those things that..well i dunno.
Here is a message i recieved from a friend of a friend who commited suicide when i made a similar post about how i felt about SLC...
" Hey tak, ..... here. Read your post on his profile. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about Salt lake. I think you have to get away from it to look back and see the city. Every where else I've lived is hollow compared to salt lake, but with that lack of emotional depth comes security from those lows. I try to explain it to people still living there and they dont see it. such a dynamic place but not always for the best "
It is also one of the most beautiful places ive been....be careful when going there though. as funny as that may sound

I forgot to mention that the drum circles at liberty park when i lived there that took place every single sunday, had more turnout than any weekly event i have ever been to in any other major city.
In some of the mormons eyes, the park on sundays gathers all the degenerates that do not want to give up their beliefs for the mormon religion. But the park is always super peaceful, and the vibe is always really chill. I guess everyone has their church on sundays
There is also alot of turnout for pagan gatherings, etc

WoW! Thanks alot tak! That really inspires me... I know that is where I need to go now.
I had actually had this idea about a pilgrimmage for like two years now, but I couldn't think of any specific place to make my destination besides beautiful nature. But when thost mormons knocked on my door and I saw the pic of that church I knew it was a message. Maybe the mormons are nuts, and maybe SLC is really just a shithole like any other city, but I think I can say that I have faith... faith that somewhere along the route I'll find what I'm looking for, or realize that what I'm looking for has found me a long time ago and I just never realized it...
I don't think I'm going to trip at the Gathering either. I'll bring enough shrooms for a single heroic dose and that will be it for the entire time I'm out there. I know I won't find answers in a desperate drug frenzy, but perhaps I will in a thoughtful ritual.

I agree with tak... I've lived in SLC most of my life.
The SLC underground is amazing.
The non-mormons stick together like family... like there are TWO Utahs.

I am a jack mormon, which means I never do anything with thier religon. I just dont assoicate with them anymore, I have quite a few jack mormon friends, and they all trip and smoke pot. But Jack mormons stick together too, trust me I am no practicing mormon, I love beer, weed, shroooms and acid and sometimes do other drugs if I get a hold of them. I hate hearing about the huge meth problem in Utah...I hate that stuff anyway. Oh and yes I dont belive in marrage unless it feels right, casual sex is cool by me, I just practice safe sex. They have some decent clubs here and there is an underground scene all over the place in the Salt lake area. Just ignore mormoms and they will leave you alone most of the time.
