I'm going insane!- Anxiety attacks, Or....?
    #5294082 - 02/13/06 09:03 AM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Ok, let me try and make this post as short as possible so you guys can just get the gist of what is going on.

A few months ago I took a flexeril for the second time in my life. I was quitting weed and I needed something to help me sleep. A few minutes after I took the pill, I was sitting on the couch and all of a sudden I started to feel cold, shaky, and had this scary rush like I was about to pass out or die. My vision started to strobe, like a light blinking really fast. It scared me half to death. I had about two of those rushes over the course of that night.
I concluded that it was due to me drinking a LOT of Gatorade over the course of that day, and all the electrolytes or sugar interacted with the pill.

A few weeks later, I took a vicodin right before going to blockbuster to get a movie. This was also my second time taking any opiates. The same thing happened while I was walking around in blockbuster. It was the most horrible thing ever! I thought I would just collapse right their in front of everyone! I felt the cold hands of death close around me, then let go leaving me shaking and about to burst into tears. I had no abnormal diet the day that that happened. I could find no reason for that episode, considering it hadn't happened my first time on vics.

The third time, a few months later, happened with no drugs at all! I woke up feeling fine, had one cup of coffee as usual at about 8:00 am. At 10:00am I had 2 more cups at a restaurant with some friends. (BTW, I have about two spoonfuls of sugar in each cup.)
About an hour after breakfast, I started feeling weak and shaky and agitated like I couldn't sleep the night before. I was walking in K-mart, and it happened again. I had that sudden rush in the middle of the check out lane. I nearly crapped myself it was so scary. That afternoon I went into a deep depression on how I was insane and going to die so young and how all these drugs fucked me the hell up.

So me and a close friend looked up my symptoms. We came up with A.hypoglycemia, Or B. Extreme anxiety attacks.

Please help me out! I don't think I can take anymore of this. I am going to see a shrink in a few days, but for now I need your help.

It definitely sounds like anxiety attacks... but why? You should note that you were on a drug of some kind when each one hit. You completely ignored the fact that caffeine IS a drug. Unless you were drinking decaff? For me, 10 PM is pretty late for regular.

Do you harbor any sort of "suppressed thoughts" about how your drug use is negatively effecting your lifestyle or well-being? This could cause you to start panicking every time you enter an altered state of any kind, in theory.

I only ask because:

That afternoon I went into a deep depression on how I was insane and going to die so young and how all these drugs fucked me the hell up.

That being said, I'd recommend you set some goals for yourself. I know it's easier said than done, but ultimately you need to work towards a healthier lifestyle to get rid of anxiety:

-cutting out ALL drug use (especially caffeine!)
-exercising regularly
-working to improve your diet and/or water consumption.

--

P.S. I could be wrong.. it could be hypoglycemia as well. They can test for this, and I'd recommend you see a doctor to rule it out if possible.

Sorry, I meant 10:00am. about two hours after the first cup.

You sound pretty right on though.

It was snowing pretty hard yesterday, so I thought I would take my chances and take the opportunity for my second L trip.

During the trip, I realized I was wasting my life away, going to work, coming home to post on the shroomery and do various drugs on the weekends. That is what I do almost every week.

I realized that I need something to do that I really like, besides drugs. I came to the conclusion to really get back into shape and do as much outdoor activities as my schedule can provide. I want to do hiking, camping, cross-country, rock climbing, and rafting. Those are the only sports I really enjoy.

I can't wait until spring comes. I live right in the middle of the Smokey's!
I have just been to busy being a computer nerd surfing the shroomery and reading all about new and interesting drugs.

Thank you for the input! That really helps!

That's wonderful man... I'm glad to hear you thought it out yourself instead of just hearing it from me... it never really counts until you hear it from yourself.

Good luck with your endeavors... following through with them would be doing yourself a great service.

And you're welcome... glad I could help.

That's for sure! I guess it just took a slap in the face from Lucy to blow through all my bullshit excuses and see what I was truly doing with my life.

Could be caused from a rapid change in blood pressure too. Next time it happens (if it happens again), try to bend down or lie down so your head is level with your heart.

Yep, I thought about that. I'm going to a doctor as well as a shrink. I am going to explain my situation and order tests for blood sugar, and I'm not sure if they have tests for drops or spikes in blood pressure? Is their stuff I can do to prevent that? It's got to be the worst feeling in the world!

i deal with blood pressure problems daily, though it's an "undiagnosed" issue ... mine drops and i become faint and useless if i don't eat a meal within at least every 3 - 4 hours per day .. it could be possible you are dealing with the same thing ...

as for the panic attacks, i used to drink energy drinks and caffeinated beverages and would get panic from just the drinks ... if i added something like a cigarette to the mix, i'd feel unbearable ... on top of the fact that i went years dealing with daily (hourly) anxiety attacks until i randomly found out i was allergic to wheat, and have completely eradicated the attacks ..

your body is just trying to tell you it doesn't like something, if you really listen closely, you'll hear what it is ...

Hmmmmm, so many things it could be.

Could be anxiety, PTSD from tripping, blood sugar, blood pressure, hypoglycemia.

My mind is telling me I need to do more with my life, but I'm still unsure as to what causes these rushes. They just seem to intense to be purely anxiety attacks. I don't think anxiety can cause 4 seconds of strobe vision and a feel of body and ego being ripped away from you.

Don't over-complicate things... anxiety and PTSD are practically part of the same item... and blood sugar and hypoglycemia as well.

So really it's just, Could be anxiety, a blood pressure problem, or a blood sugar problem.

Again, ATLEAST see a doctor about the blood sugar possibility, as it can be tested for.

Trust me when I say you are severely underestimating the power of the mind.

As someone above said, your body is trying to tell you something isn't right. You aren't going to figure out what it is unless you start making changes.

The fact that you're unsure of what causes them is not going to change until you make some changes in your lifestyle to find out.

In the mean time, you can either make excuses and no progress and still experience these attacks anyway or you can start trying to do something about it DESPITE your uncertainty regarding the nature of the experiences.

Take what I say with a grain of salt... but if it strikes a harmonious chord with you, try not to ignore that. Peace...

No, your right. I need to start eating healthier and take a brake from drugs, of any kind. I am ordering tests and and an appointment with a shrink. I think I should be able to narrow it down with the above. With a combination of no drugs, healthier eating and lots of exercise, I think I could eliminate these symptoms fairly easily now that I think about it. I need BOTH a happy mind and a happy body (blood). Not just one or the other.

Fuck! You all left out the basic spiritual issues such as facing the reality or lack of reality of ones own mind. Often people can't handle their thoughts, state of being, or soo on, as mentioned above, much mental symptoms can be physically caused. How about this? Instead of always freaking out and reaffirming the scarey phenomenon (which I personally feel is merely growing pangs), instead just stop, breath out and then in and then say, here I am now. Unique in the entire multiverse, here I am now. And then rejoice because nobody else can say that! Otherwise keep an Mp3 player. That's what they're for.

What? How would an Mp3 player help? I have an ipod, but I doubt that is the answer. I really think that I need to have more direction in my life and a healthier life style. I am already a huge fan of music. I can't get enough of music festivals and I am always listening to my ipod.
I know what you mean about the breath though. I think that would help calm me down after one of these "rushes", but I don't think basic spiritual issues are causing these episodes.
Then again, I could be wrong.......

Only time will tell. I will get some tests done and see a shrink. If all else fails, I guess I am left with daily meditation and such.

Man, just the way you're trying to analyze these episodes and pry up underlying reasons leads me to STRONGLY believe you have anxiety issues.

You're not dying.

Nothing is wrong!

Life is great.

Just talk to someone man. Get your anxiety issues sorted and you'll feel great. Medications might be needed (I'm on medications for anxiety) but they're not bad at all!

Like what? Benzo's? I am seeing a doctor tomorrow or Wednesday, and I am going to ask him for a benzo script. Even if the "rushes" aren't anxiety, they sure leave me in an anxiety attack.

I'm taking SSRI's. Cipralex. I've tried Paxil and Cipralex rocks it hard.

I thought SSRI's were anti-depressants?

I would rather have a fast acting anxiety fix for situations like this, since they don't happen every day. Just something to keep on hand for emergencies.

That they are. But they also work really effectively for a whole host of issues.

Anxiety is typically not limited to the attacks. It's an issue throughout your daily life. Aversions to situations, worry about inconsequential problems, irrational behavior, etc. If you try and just cure the attacks you'll still be left with the underlying anxiety.

I see....

I don't know, I usually feel pretty fine and enjoy life. Not too much anxiety or depression that I would want a script for. I don't like the idea of having to take a daily drug. I have been through that with ADD, and I ended up dropping all the meds and I enjoy life allot more. I just have to work a little harder to stay on task, but in the long run it's worth it.

Yeah man. Well meds aren't for everyone. They worked great for me but talking to someone also helped probably just as much!

During anxiety attacks it helps to focus on proper breathing routines. Another trick is to try and take your mind off any fear that you might have.
