I was talking to this guy and he mentioned that he makes his cakes using the PF Tek but he substitutes the BRF for Potato Agar. I don't know the quantities he uses and am interested in experimenting as he said he had huge flushes but before staring I'd like to know if any of you have heard of this system before.

You can grow on all kinds of things. I've seen mushrooms growing off bibles and dollar bills.

potato agar? i doubt they use potato agar. agar = vegan jello/gelatin. we only use agar in petris and test tube slants. now potato flour and dextrose or something like that is another story. you can use other flours. grind wbs into a flour, et cetera.

Well, he used potato agar. You know, boil potatoes, eat them, use the cooking water to make the agar. I'm not sure how he does it, I remember he said something about adding less water and more jelly. All I know is that this guy swore by it. He's a bit of a self-taught kind of guy, he started of with the PF panflet and has experimented loads. I'll see if I can get in touch with him and I'll keep you updated.

maybe adding potato broth instead of water, but do you really think the myc is going to colonize through a 1 pint block of jello?

I don't know, maybe he broke the stuff up. Have you ever mashed jelly with a fork? the stuff is quite liquid. As I said, I'll try and speak to him and we'll see what he does.
