Shake...Spores?
    #5293049 - 02/12/06 10:20 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I recently obtained a nice bag of cubensis caps and stems. There was some shake in the bag, which I kept to see if I could fill the bag with water and suck up the shake-water into a syringe. My hope is that the shake contains some loose spores.

What do you suppose is the likelihood that just some shake would have spores in it? The caps were detatched from the stems so I suspect that a spore print was made. I dunno. What do you think?

thanks!

There is most likely spores in the shake in your bag. If you sprinkled some of the shake on an agar petri dish, then it would perhaps colonize. If that did colonize, you could transfer it to some WBS or other substance to grow on. Sucking it into a syring won't work due to the other larger mushrooms matter clogging the needle, and the huge risk of contams.

I don't think much will happen, but I don't know. That does not sound very sterile and if not then it's contaminate city or you can get lucky.

Nope, im sure that there is some spores in your bag but wouldnt work how your thinkn, basicly there is no way to use the spores in the bag to grow.

You'll definitely get some spores!

The problem is, you'll get contaminants too because the bag wasn't filled and kept in sterile conditions. :frown:

I'd be interested to hear results.

Now, I've heard of cloning mushrooms using a petri dish, but that always seems too advanced for me. Would it be harder than the PF tek (assuming there are actually virile spores in my bag)?

For your first grow. It would be cheaper to buy a spore syringe from a vendor. Rather then buying agar supplies and isolating.

You really do get some good bang for your buck with a vendor syringe.

Not to mention it would be so much easier then isolating with agar.

Yes, but what if it is not perticularly convenient to get a spore print from a vendor? if you catch my drift...

You'll get mushrooms spores but you'll get a few thousand bacterial and mold spores. If you can't order them for some reason checkout the market place forum towards the bottom.

No, I'm not catching it. What's the problem? Money, parents, homeless (no shipping address)?

If it's a legal issue, you may want to check out the FSRC link in my sig.
