Blood meal question

I wanted to add blood meal to straw and use it as a casing substrate.
I heard that it smells awful and I don't want to stink up my house while pasteurizing, so I was wondering if I could pasteurize the straw and then take it off the stove, add the blood meal, and then set it outside in the pot to sit for an hour. Would this be OK?

It does smell absolutely terrible. Don't waste your time with it...especially if you don't want to stink up your house. Just stick with some pasteurized horse-poo with your straw. You'll get bigger shrooms, bigger flushes, and more numerous flushes anyway...besides, pasteurizing horsepoo will only smell like you're pasteurizing soil - any smell that exists is not unpleasant and goes away quickly.
