Mini-Casing: Day [7]

Substrate: 1/2 brf/verm caked crumbled Casing: 60/40 verm/coir w/ crushed oyster shell
Days of incubation: 3

This is what it looked like when I started to pin it.
I was worried about overlay so I put it in a martha early, JUST when myc started to show.
After 4 days in the martha:

Sorry for the lack of detail on the images.. its from my cell phone, for some reason my g/f's digi cam doesnt want to turn on, even though i just put brand new batteries in it.
but there are strands of rhizo crawlin over but it seems like the casing layer is drying out so i've been misting lightly, because i dont want them to dry out.. but i dont want to suffocate it..
should i stop misting it and just hope the moisture is suffiecent, or keep misting? knots havent even formed yet.. im guessing the rhizo is gonna spread all the way across the casing layer... is that over lay? or is it okay?
also.. i never patched.. is it too late to patch? or would it be helpful here sense the myc is little sections?
i know its hard to tell, i will put a new pic with high reso once i figure out whats up with the camera
this is my first attempt at a cake. just wanted a small test so i can get used to it and my set up before i spawn my hpoo for the real casings
oh and... i just harvested my second cake today, came out to 35.6g wet
and i harvested one yesterday that weighed about 45g wet
this is about 4 hours before harvesting yesterday's cake which was dunked for 24 hours and placed back in the terrainium earlier

so i feel like i got cakes down.. time to move on to more bang for the buck!@

Are you sure you put them in right side up?

Yes, LIGHTLY mist until first pins appear. Yes, myc covering the casing layer is overlay. No, it is not ok. Coir has a tendency to overlay since it contains nutes, and the myc wants to colonize it before pinning. Yes, you can patch now. Just go very light in the areas where myc is poking through(no deeper than 1/16"), and make sure to keep the casing layer damp. You should be alright. Congrats on your earlier grows. Sounds like you're ready to move up the food chain.

btw, you dont need a ph buffer when using verm and coir. You only need that with peat.
