Tips for the Kitchen

This thread is where you can read and share hints and tips that are useful in the kitchen.
1. Garlic smell on hands - If you have the smell of garlic on your hands(and don't like it ), rub your hands on/with stainless steel while washing(use a spoon or sink or whatever). It won't get rid of it all the way, but it helps a lot. *This works for onion as well*
2. Scorched pot/pan - If you scorched your pot or pan, sprinkle baking soda on, add a few drops of water(to make a paste of sorts) and let sit overnight. Should be able to wipe off in the morning.
3. Butter wrappers - If you unwrap some softened butter for baking and some sticks to the wrapper, use it to grease whatever you're cooking in.
4. - Baked on food - If you have food baked onto a casserole or something, and can't seem to get it off, try this. Put a dryer sheet in, cover with hot water, and let sit overnight. Wipe, scrub in the morning.
5. - Eggs - Easy way to tell freshness of eggs(beside expiration date), is to put it in a glass of water. If it lays on it's side, it's super fresh. If it's angled, it's still good. If it stands upright, use if for baking or something. If it floats, throw it at someone.
6. - Egg shells and coffee grounds - Throw your egg shells and coffee grounds into your garden. If you don't have a garden, maybe you have flower pots or something. If nothing, move somewhere better
7. Roasting meat - Forget the stupid roasting rack. Get yourself some vegetable, quarter them(or cut them big/same size), and lay your meat on them. This keeps those ugly marks away, and lets all the fat drip down. Since the fat is dripping all over your veggies, you also get an instant side/garnish that is ultra-yummy.
8. TOO HOT coffee or tea - Are you one of those people that adds ice to their beverage to cool it down? Shame on you, why dilute it? Next time you make some, take the leftover and put it in an ice cube tray and freeze it. Now you can cool that shit down without ruining it.
9. - Ice cubes - Ice cubes are fucking boring. Get out of the old days, and follow me into the new age. You've read my flavored cube post, so here is a few other tips for perking up those boring ass ice cubes. Add some mint, or marashino cherries, raspberries, blueberries, food coloring, or lemon/lime/orange zest to the water. Also, if you want some crystal clear cubes, use filtered water.
10. Crying onion eyes - There's a few ways to help prevent watery eyes when cutting onions. What I do is wear sunglasses. Them big ones that cover the fronts, top, and sides of your eyes. You know, the type the old people wear. You can also, chill the onion. That helps some.
11. Softening butter - So you forgot to soften the butter, and need to do it quickly. Heat up a bowl in the microwave, and cover the stick(s) with it.
12. - Honey measuring - Spray your measuring cup with nonstick spray before pouring your honey in. It will slide out much easier this way. *Also works with syrup*
That's all I can think of right now. I'll add more as they come to me. Now, throw some more at us...

Interesting, thanks for the read. I spend a good amount of time in the kitchen myself. I guess I am the cook of the house - so this should be useful.
