for WBS?
For Cakes?
i was thinking just a layer of verm for both, 1/4 the thickness of the substrate layer. but then a friend had made cakes and claimed he used a mixture of peat moss and vermiculite for his casing layer. so I was wondering what u guys thought was best? peat moss is acidic if not corrected for, and i though shrooms liked a ph above 7, also i heard it gets more acidic at later flushes so all the more reason not to use peat right?

you use a PH buffer for peat. Hydrated lime for an instant buffer along with some calcium carbonate for long term buffer.

btw straight verm makes a shitty casing layer, follow the 50/50 teks or the 60/40 teks.

Word!
-------------------- Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

The best I think is to what degree you want to take it. How much you want to or can put into it.
I have been doing 50/50 but I need to move up to peat, but then you have to or should be testing the Ph and adjusting it....
The problem I have been having is with the later flushes. I know the case is still good to go, but by then (by the 3rd flush)the top layer goes to shit, I scar the surface but...still have problems.
