Complete Newb Mushroom Hunter in Dire Need of Aid
    #5291225 - 02/12/06 11:42 AM (17 years, 11 months ago)

From here on out I have decided to stop buying mushrooms in general. One day I will grow my own but for now my living quarters are limited. So that leaves my other option being hunting for them. I live in South Jersey, on the East Coast. And although I wish to hunt mushrooms, I certainly do not know nearly as much as any of you veteran hunters out there. When should I look (In terms of seasons, temperature, and weather), how exactly can I spot psychoactive mushrooms, and how do I go about drying them. Any information or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

You are probably going to have a tough time finding active mushrooms in your state. The best chance would probably be panaeolus subbalteatus. Even that can be rarely encountered in certain areas. You will have to find the right habitat. You should goggle the species name to find out the exact times of year and kind of habitats that you should look for.
Also there has been a lot of discussion about NJ on here so search posts should be able to come up with a bunch of info.
