Question about lights.
    #529111 - 01/23/02 03:18 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

My grandpa is growing some shrooms and he asked me a question. He asked if he didn't have the light coming in from the top, but the side would the mushrooms still grow? Will the light from the top make the mushrooms grow better?

The light acts as a "trigger" to initiate pinning. It also gives the fruit a direction in which to grow, so with the light above the cake the shrooms grow upward. Your grandpa may have shrooms all growing on one side of the cake, and all growing toward the light. If you have a good flush the cake may tip over on it's side when the shrooms grow to far outward.

Happy shroomin to all and to all a good trip

Uhm, dude. mushrooms are not photosynthetic organisms. they would in no way benefit from growing towards light. Sure, some strains may need it to init pinning, but they do not require light for growth. I see your logic though, photoresponsive plants reach towards the light (ie; using a light mover w/ a hydroponic setup to distribute the light

cook,
the reason the jooms go to the light is because they think it's up, so if the light is on the side. then they will think that side is up and grow towards it.

Ok, so if the mushrooms don't need light to grow, how long should my paps keep his 2 flourecent lights on them?
