Music soo good you can't even listen to it?

Does anyone know what this feels like. I feel like I've been realizing that there are certain bands I can't listen to for too long before I want to cry. For some reason Muse does this to me. Their music and words are escalating and heartfelt. The lead singer's voice is strong and overwhelmingly beautiful. After a certain point I get so emotional listening to them I can barely handle myself. and I'd say this about pretty much any album I put on of theirs.
Anyone got any bands that do this to them?

Opeth does that to me... I also have some memories tied to certain songs of theirs too, so that may be it.
Download and listen to "A Fair Judgement" off of their cd Deliverance and you'll get an idea of what I mean. It's a long song(10 min), but listen to it all the way through. I have to go to work otherwise I'd upload it and post a link.

Marvin Gaye - What's Goin On
Every time....it's hard work emotionally, but worth it - whilst on a comedown, it's not settling, and it makes you confront things you'd rather ignore.....
I doubt there are many finer pieces of emotional 'soul' music out there today.

Same for me. I get overwhelmed with memories, feelings, and emotion from certain songs. Whatever I was feeling or going through when I had first got into some songs, will come back to me every time I play them.
There are also a few songs that bring back memories from some hard times, and it becomes extremely difficult to listen to them. It has been to the point where I've been in tears too. The songs are good and all, there's just too much of my past emotion tied to them to be able to play them anymore.

i know how you feel, i think music is infintely tied to my purpose for existence..i wouldn't still be breathing without it. whether i'm watching it, listening to it, creating it, or becoming part of it, some songs just permeate every piece of me...especially while playing it (i play drums, guitar, bass, etc..) the rest of the world melts away and i can just be present in the moment of creating something beautiful. it's a lot like meditation for me. listening to it is more emotional because i can step back and let my mind wander and connect with other parts of my life. in any case, music does things to the soul that can't be explained with words i wouldn't say it's soo good that i can't listen to it though it's probably more the opposite, i'm hopelessly addicted.

Cool post.
This kinda happens to me alot but in the sense that I'll be listening to a song that uncomfortably overwhelms my thoughts and feelings but I can't turn it off because the intensity of the message and whatever emotion it is provoking is to passionate to just dismiss .
Case in point: Just yesterday I was listenuing to Perfect Day by The Velvet Underground and it just burried me in a hole but I didn't want to climb out because the music was just to strong to just skip over or forget.

The Star Spangled Banner.
Other than that, The Rolling Stones. Not because their music is that good, but because I would listen to them all the time with a special person who is now gone.
I don't think any band makes music so good I can't listen to it. At least, no band I listen to. I don't listen to any type of touchy-feely music however, so that may be it

while in an altered state, the Damnation album overwhelms me.
also, Heroin by the Velvet Underground makes me all weirded out when the music starts to get more intense. crazy.

Hell yeah bud, probably my favorite Opeth song. Have you heard the version off of the Lamentations DVD? Its outstanding!
And pH, hell yeah, Around the World's last few minutes are absolutley mind blowing. Especially whilst tripping.

you should take a listen to elbow, their a british band, the lead singers extremely talented - he's heavier, brilliant sound and breathing, great lenghty voice.

My point is the song is a paean to heroin, masquerading as a song about sharing a day with a loved person. I think the public should be informed of this.

I definitely know what you mean about overwhelming music. Like most others, I'm sure the most powerful is linked up to some memory you have and the song or album just brings back all those emotions. Mer de Noms by A Perfect Circle gives me chills pretty much every time.
On another note I've never listened to any Opeth...you guys have any recommendations for me on what to start out with?

I know exactly what the song is about. Read the post again. I don't see any reference to cupcakes, lolipops, sunshine and butterflies.

Have you guys listened to the Ott remix of "around the world in a tea daze" (its on the Shpongle Remixed album)? I think its much much more emotional, but thats just my opinion. It has a deeper appeal to me and is very intense.
anyways, Pink Floyd is music that touches my heart, brings back a lot of memories, too.

Some of Opeth's heavier songs have growl lyrics, which many people don't care for. That being said they have some of the best acoustic and instrumental tracks ever recorded.
Try these
Opeth - Credence Opeth - For absent friends Opeth - Patterns in the ivy Opeth - Harvest Opeth - To bid you farewell Opeth - Windowpane Opeth - Hope leaves Opeth - Still day beneath the sun Opeth - In my time of need Opeth - Requiem Opeth - A fair Judgement
Some good ones to start with

Oh yeah. Crosby Stills Nash and Young have a song called Our House. I can't really listen to it, cause it's so beautiful. I have it saved though for those times where i need something pure. It's just one of those things in life that fell together absolutely perfectly, and if it wasn't done at that exact moment in time by those people, it wouldn't be what it is. Other one's have a similar effect, but nothing i've heard yet compares to that song. And i listen to a lot of music.

Lateralus. It is such an intense ride, and I don't ever want it to lose that kick. So I listen to it rather sparingly, considering that it is such a freakin' awesome album.

There is this song Zorba-The Deep
The intro is so fucking powerfull, I dare to turn it on. As soon as the soft pad hits my ear I am taken to a mellow ominous state, and as soon as the organic smooth synth stars, the music has envoloped me, and almost so much that I want to break down and cry.

I just bought Blackwater Park for no other reason than I've heard so much about Opeth here at the shroomery.
I never knew heavy metal could be so articulate and I never figured you'd ever find me listening to screaming and really digging it.

Aquatic Ambience made me feel like that recently. It's not so much because it's soo good (and it is), it's because it's soo sad sounding.

Wish you were here - Pink FLoyd. I get a lump in my throat almost every time I hear it. Some of The Smiths songs, the cure, morrissey, old 60's and 70's songs my mom used to listen to. Thank GOODNESS she hated country and western music! U mom!
