how long can i keep a liquid culture in the jar without it dying or going bad. And what are some ways of keeping mycelium or liquid cultures for a long time.

Mycelium can live for a long time(Months)in LC, I don't know the limit.
You can transfer them into a Vacutainer or look into making slants.

Keep them cool and in a dark place.

also, isnt the amount of time it will stay alive in LC proportionate to amount of food ya give em (like honey)? more food = they stay alive longer, or am i wrong ?

Not relay, case you can use distilled water that would have not nuts in it
They kinda fall asleep, hibernate, growth stalls

well in my experience they do. not in vacutainers but in jars and they colonize sterile grain just fine but when the grain is then exposed to h/poo they contaminate with mold about 50% of the time whereas fresh (only a month or 2 old) LC under the same conditions contaminates with h/poo about 4-8% of the time.

Are you talking about spores or an LC? I don't know of any "lab" that will mail you live cultures, the topic of this thread.

i had a lc last for 4 years. I just opened it and started over. I used it 6 months ago for the last time.
Here is the chunck of mycelium that is left over its kind of gross looking
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

I'm not sure what I would do but I would come up with some strange experiment to do with all that mycelium
What was that LC made of,I have made some think LC but I don't think it ever had that much mycelium in it ??
