HI all, man this forum/sites is so sweet, a lot of valuable info here, thanks Im on my 1st time grow (pf tek), got a few jars in temp controlled incubator (85dg. A few of my jars have stopped growing, say 3/4 of the way though. Ive tried removing foil and turning them upside down and fanning them for air exchange, but i think maybe they dryed out as they been in there a month now i think. SO,my question is this. I been reading the dunking technique and wondered if i should dunk the semi colonized cakes for 24 hours then birth them. Would this b worth doing or would it b a risk for the other cakes already fruiting? Thanks in advance. Meta spiral Om namah Shiva <>

Your best to give it more time....How long has it been?
Turning them upside down is a good idea.. fanning is unnecessary. If you want more air exchange you can try loosening the lid a quarter turn or something.

The problem with dunking a cake that isn't 100% colonized is contamination . As soon as you put the uncolonized sub. in an non-sterile environment , out of the jars , you have a nutrient rich substrate for any airborne contam to start growing , and they will. If you insist on doing this , you should remove the uncolonized portion first .
Good Luck

yea patience is key. im on my first grow also and everything can be REALLY slow the first time. but i do find that some strains are WAY faster than others using the basic pftek... try your luck at amazonian or ecuadorian... both fast colonizers... what strain are you using?

While you're waiting on these to finish up colonizing you should start deciding on how you plan to birth them. My advice is to read about casing. I'd recommend the 50/50+ tek, as a peat based casing layer is better than a coir based one, and less likely to get overlay. Once your cakes are 100% colonized and you're ready to case (assuming you want to at all), check out hyphae's pinning strategy. If you have any casing related questions, consult the casing FAQ. Now casing is in no way mandatory, but it definitely is a good thing to know, as it really isn't hard at all to do and will help increase your yields.
Also, in your free time while waiting for these jars to colonize, read a bit on the benefits of whole grains and bulk substrates. Essentially they just give you bigger, more potent fruits, with slightly more effort.
