a.d.d. or a.d.h.d.?

I have been dealing with the following problems my whole life.
very impatient, I can't wait until somebody is done telling me somthing so I can say somthing.
can't pay attention for no more then 2minutes.
I drift away and space out while doing work, easily distracted by little things.
I often blurt out comments, like the first thing on my mind when somebody says somthing.
I love games, but I can't stand playing them for longer then 20 minutes.
Throughout high school, I have always have done really good in 1 class, barely passed most of them, and then failed 1 class. I could never do good in all of them.
I am always over whelmed by work, even little ammounts, so I often don't finish anything.
I plan on doing work later, and when I start doing it later, I end up getting extremly bored and not finishing it.
Should I get evaluated for a.d.d.? I was never evaluated before because my parents refused to. Does anyone else have a.d.d., what kind of medicine did they perscribe you? and how is it going? Are you able to request specific medications?

Go to the doc and listen to what he says. Take what he gives you and if you get bad side effects or it just dosn't seem to help, ask for something new.

I think if you perceive those things to be problems, then you should try to solve them. I dont personally think that amphetamines can solve your problems. They can mask your problems pretty good, but so can most drugs.
I think you need to do some serious research before taking any drug.
Maybe society isnt condusive to who you are.... is that any reason to take drugs to change so as to better "fit" into society?
I dont believe that there is anything chemically wrong with you... your problems are intrinsic and abstract (not chemical), they are of you, so why would you try to cure something with external, tangible means?

I'd try and avoid prescription medication if possible.. I was diagnosed with adhd in elementary school and never went through with getting the medication for it..as a kid I really didn't like the idea of needing a pill every day just to make sure my mind would function properly at school, so I just kind of lived with it..
If you have any hobbies such as playing sports or music or whatever, I bet you might have noticed that it's not always that difficult to keep yourself focused while you are doing something you truely enjoy doing. This shows that under the right circumstances it shouldn't be all that impossible for your mind to keep focused while your doing anything. It sounds that in a way you are going to have to 'train' or reprogram the way your mind functions in your day to day life. Make it a habbit to watch yourself and your thoughts..if you don't like blurting out the first thing that comes to mind and you do, atleast take note that you did and try and resist the temptation the next time. Try not to stress over it.. See if you can keep your mind calm and relaxed when things seem to be getting overwhelming.. why are you getting overwhelmed? Allowing yourself to become stressed over certain situations won't usually make things any easier.
Sometimes patience takes practice..and it would seem that alot of us as human beings will have multiple tests of patience of varying degrees every day of the week..try to take advantage of that.
What is your diet like? Back in school, my diet was shit, and I think that must have contributed greatly to my lack of concentration in and outside of school. The last couple years I have been eating better and watching my health more closely, and have found that since trying out a few things I've been feeling alot better overall, and my abillity to maintain good concentration has increased exponentially.
-if you think your diet might be an issue try and watch what you eat.. more greens, less junk. -you can always supplement any vitamins your diet might be lacking, especially your B vitamins -your omega 3's are another vital component in brain function that is lacking in many peoples diets
and even more importantly.. excercise!!
not only is excercise great for your psysical body as a whole, it is one of the best ways I can think of to practice focusing your attention on something..and best of all, it is fun!
Hope that helps.

I have to say that ritalin helped me alot to focus. I went from having lots of problems to caring about doing those 'useful' things that I put off because my worry would actually stimulate action.
But I feel that the best way to handle things is to skip the worry and just do it. You can find a way.
The question is what are you willing to do. I find something seriously ethically wrong with taking medication because you want to do something in theory, while in reality you obviously don't care to do it. You can say this or that, but the facts point to laziness and apathy.
Maybe you are feeling like the end result of an action would be great, but the struggle to acheive it is daunting. I can understand this very well. Just realize that you have to prioritize things.

Yeah, after I had some diet changes, I have noticed a huge difference on my concentration, my memory, and my health in general.

I was just thinking earlier today about a time back in grade 3 when me and my friend both realized we took a pill at lunchtime. I remember asking what his said on it and if he wanted to trade sometime.
Weird behavior, I don't think I was really thinking of the effects, just that it would be cool to trade pills like hockey cards or something.

I do agree with some of the previous posts, however medication does help. I was diagnosed with ADD in Kindergarten, and started taking Ritalin(horrible drug). It definitely helped me consetrate but there are numerous side effects. High Blood pressure, depression, lose of appetite and a few cases death. When i finally stopped taking then Sr. year of high school i was glad to be off the medication. However starting college I noticed the problem was still there and no matter how hard I told myself to concentrate it just doesn't work. Now I am on a pill called Adderal. I think it comes down to the person, the level of ADD and the enviroment that you are when trying to concentrate.

See if you can get something other than the regular amphetmaine bullshit, if you like to eat, that is. My cousin was a pretty big guy going into high school, than his mom put him on Adderal, he's super skinny and looks really frail...it sucks. I feel bad for him, because I know he can't defend himself when he's that small lol, ahw ell
