Green Mold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have read my other post it stated that I seen some green mold last night and tried to take it off with a spoon. Well I woke up this morning and there was tons of it all over my casing layer. So here is what I decided to do. I took a spoon and got all of the green spots off. Then I took all of my casing layer off. I've heard that it is really hard for poo to get contaminated so hopefully this works. AFter that I sprayed with H2O2 solution. I don't really know what I should do. I am going to be pissed if I lose this to green mold.
Now my question is what should I do about a casing layer. It is a mono tub so I think that I might need one. Right now it has no casing layer and I was debating on not putting another casing on. If I do put another casing it is going to be straight verm. I don't like the coco coir anymore.
I wish I had an FC because then I would just take it out of the tub and fruit it as a giant cake. But I don't so there goes that idea, and I really don't have the money to go out any by everything for one either. I might be able to scrounge up some money just for a big tub and some perlite. Give me your thoughts and then i'll decide what to do.

Didn't read the whole post but I don't think you should have ripped off all the casing layer...just get rid of all the green mold you can next time make a highly concentrated solution of H202. You might do some damage to the substrate but its better than taking a total loss. I have eaten substrates contaminated with green mold myself....never gave them to others in less they understood the risks. I never had any negative effects associated with doing so. I wouldn't put another casing on chances are it will get contam. I would try fruiting it now. Don't know how successful you will be.

Yeah I am really worried about it. The only problem is how will my humidity stay high in there. It is a monotub and I need that casing layer to to provide moisture. I have had it in the fruiting stage now since monday and i've had no pins.
I made some casing material up and sanitized it just incase I needed it later. I will def not put a casing layer on until later because I want to see if anymore green mold comes about. Hopefully it doesn't and I'll be ok.

if i were you i would start trying to figure out how you fucked up. casing too wet? sterility problems in your teks? too little air flow? temps? a combination?

Either he didn't sterilize the casing well enough or there is just too much mold spores in his house.

I think that it was a problem with FAE. I had about an inch between the bottom holes and the top of the casing because of a minor miscalculation, but that is fixed now. My house is a clean house and I have NEVER had a problem with green mold before. This is the first time I have had a contamination of any sorts. Since I took my casing layer off this morning I haven' tseen any new green. I think that part of the problem is Coir. Coir is too nutritous to use as a casing layer and I believe that it promotes the growth of contaminates. For now on I will never use coir again. I am going to wait until tomorrow morning to see if there is any green mold growth and if there isn't then I am going to put a thin casing layer on. I have it sitting in light right now. I wonder if I should put it back in the dark.

No, you should toss it out. The green isn't the mold and removing it only spread it around more, as well as getting it on yourself, your clothes, the walls, etc., which is going to contaminate your future projects as well. The term 'green mold' is a misnomer. The mold is white, just like your mushroom mycelium. The spores are what is green. Removing the spores is the same as scraping the black off a casing layer after a mushroom flush has dropped spores. Will that get rid of the mushroom mycelium? Of course not.
Get rid of that tub, clean out your room, yourself, everything.
Next time, increase the size of the holes in your tub for increased air exchange, or fan more often. Trichoderma only grows in still, stale, humid air. With proper air exchange, it can't hurt you. RR

I bet that is what I thought was overlay because those areas are what turned green. That really sucks that I am going to loose my project like that.
This time around I made smaller holes because last time I did a monotub I had too much air exchange. My caps were always cracking and I thought making smaller holes would increase the humidity in my tub and therefore get rid of my cracked caps. But it looks like all I did was screw this one up.
The only reason I am upset about it is because it was such a big project. 10lbs of poo wasted. Plus all of the time it took to colonize and everything.
THis is my first screw up that I have ever had in my experiences with mycology. I have been growing for about 4 months and not one contamination until now. And it just had to happen on this. That just goes to show how it goes.
I guess I might as well get my next jars going. Hopefully this time I won't F it up. I really wish I had the room for a martha so that way I could do a bunch of small casings instead of one big one. But I just don't have the space to put one of those. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and I have family that comes over sometimes that can't know that I do this. Maybe I should get a large tub that will fit in my closet and hook a humidifier up to it.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I hope my future projects turn out better.

Dude, the only way we learn is by our mistakes. The money lost and the oh shit factor is what speeds up the learning curve. Put the bigger holes in, and if your caps are cracking, you can lay a sheet of wax paper over them and the fruits will push it up and out of the way as they grow, but it will help increase the humidity in that area while still allowing air exchange.
