First attempt at bulk using PF-style cakes
    #5287575 - 02/10/06 11:00 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

This will be my first attempt at anything other than a typical PF-style grow. I inoculated 7 brown rice flour/vermiculite half-pinters with the four strains. Two additional jars of whole grain brown rice were cooked and inoculated when cool as an experiment.

These are images of the cakes one month later after incubating at temperatures of 50-60 degrees. Growth has been very slow and only now are some cakes approaching birthday.

1. I think that little spot of white might be mold.

2. Almost done, just the top left to colonize.

3. Getting there...

4. Growing verrrrry slowly. This is B+. I have injected water into this jar twice hoping it was simply too dry.

5. Close indeed!

6. Whole grain rice cake, Costa Rica. Growing slowly but seems to be getting around the jar ok.

7. The other whole grain rice cake, one side.

8. Same cake as #7, but showing some really funky shit on this side.

9. Labeled 'Golden Teacher' but looks like mold to me. Very cottony white in appearance and sporadic, patchy growth. Not looking very shroomy but smell will confirm or disprove my suspicions when I open it.

When these guys are birthed, the non-contaminated ones will be chopped up and spread out on a substrate of 75% straw and 25% horse poo. Still not sure what kind of container to use, have been using mycofile's 'neglect report' as reference. Wish me luck, will post updates.
