sclerotia harvest? (Altantis #7)

So my ATL#7 jars were knocked up on 12-22-05 and all of them have sclerotia forming (some more than others).
Some of the jars still have white/tannish sclerotia that are obviously not ready for harvest, but others have sclerotia that are very dark with almost blackish edges and are pretty huge and gnarly!
I'm pretty eager to try out this new species, and so I was wondering how I am supposed to know when it is finally harvest time. Also, HOW exactly am I supposed to harvest them? Do I just take a sharp knife or spoon and just tear the stuff out? The jars are shouldered...

I've always wondered how you are supposed to harvest sclerotia...

If more than 50% of the sclerotia by volume is dark then it is a good time to harvest. You can harvest at any time, but harvesting too soon means less yield.
You should try to break up the grains by shaking them violently or slamming them against something that won't shatter the glass on impact (like your thigh). If that fails (or your thigh gets sore), just gouge out all of the material with a spoon. You can brush the sclerotia off with a toothbrush or paint brush to remove clinging seed. You can also rinse them quickly in water and drain on paper towels for a cleaner product. Don't soak or they will get soggy.

Yep I have a little electric toothbrush. RGS falls off easily, rice is a bastard. Una grew on millet and simply strained it off, the small millet fell through a mesh.

I found a rich substrate (wbs, quinoa + bone meal) produced such dense mycelial growth that it wouldn't shake apart at all. I had to pick through it with a fork to recover the sclerotia.

Can you clone sclerotia like mushrooms? It would suck to have to buy a new syringe every time you want to get some. I guess you could use spawn masters and LC, but I'm curious about the cloning.
