The legality of spores

Ok please forgive me if this message makes you roll your eyes. Complete nooB here.
After much reading about growing mushrooms, I am one by one coming up with questions to ask the experts. Now I'm not a legal expert but I'm pretty sure growing mushrooms is illegal in the US. I've heard from several friends that the spores aren't however. Is this true? Also, can you guys please give some links to a few reputable websites that have a decent variety of spores? Thanks in advance guys!

Spores are legal in the US except for the states of CA, ID and GA. They are sold for microscopy research, and can be fascinating to study.
Any of the Shroomery vendors have a decent selection - Ralphster's has the biggest selection IMO and great service, but I like em all.

Since they're illegal in California, would the vendors be willing to still ship here?

Think before engaging your keyboard. You are asking if a vendor would knowingly, willingly & publicly commit an illegal act for which he could be criminally prosecuted .
No vendor here, would do such a thing. Unless their SANITY was an issue.

Spores are illegal in California, Georgia and Idaho.
Anno made a mistake when he posted Ohio... Spores are not illegal in the State of Ohio!~
As far as Vendors that are willing to send to California... We aren't going to dicuss this illegal activity here in the Mush Cult.

This thread has been closed.
Reason: We don't discuss sending spores to California on the board.
