    #5283728 - 02/09/06 09:46 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

guys i posted a little while back reporting anxiety about 10 days after my experience with mushrooms, like i said before it wasnt a bad trip, they werent bad shrooms, they were cubensis, and its almost a month later and im still really really affected by this intense anxiety. i had a sound psychological state going in, and now im running a fine line from psychosis. be careful guys. its not all fun and games.

Take a deep breath, count to eight heart beats holding your breath, then slowly exhale.  Repeat if necessary.

You sound quite shaken up by your experience, You have not lost your sanity, you have had your perspective on reality change.  Sit down by yourself in a quiet room and relax yourself, and reflect back to your trip.  Try to figure out what is causing your anxiety.

It should be a bit harder than that. I agree, flusH is right about that method though.
I dont like to say it, but that is often a hard thing to get over, and it is more common than some would assume. Even if you have a Heavy trip you are well ready to deal with, some physical discomfort can happen afterwards. Some of these new physical feelings and cognitive changes can bring about anxiety. You do have to kind of figure some things out before the anxiety part stops.
I had the most interesting life changing experience after using ayahuasca for 2 days in a row, the last day being a very heavy dose. The after effects tweaked me out for about a year. Its now been almost two years, and I still feel it, and see visuals. I did not feel at home in my own head for about a year though, and learned a whole damn lot because of it. The new, better self ripped into the old for a long time and it was very hard on me. It can go away be itsself. Seeking help is probably the worst thing you could do to yourself. Medication for this psychadelic induced "problem" is definitely a no-no.

Thanks for the post Flamebolt, people need to know that its not all fun and games. Anxiety is case-specific, you have to find your own way out. Good luck, because one month is nothing. You will likely get over it if you treat yourself right and try to figure it out.

The more you tunnel your vision into thinking that you're damaged from mushrooms will just make it worse.

Try taking your mind off it, dont do anything that will make you dwell on the trip. Go out with friends, watch movies.

You may be perceiving things slightly different, the shrooms may have altered your input/output on feelings and what not, but thats all how you percieve it. Practice makes progress; even with perception, in my opinion

Im really sorry that happened to you. Medication doesnt help as much as waiting it out. Once you stop taking that stuff, you will likely be right back where you started(made little or no progress).
The anxiety I felt for months caused me to stop smoking pot. I I couldnt breath right, my mind was in such a foreign place, that I would forget to breath correctly when going to bed etc(common for someone with a physiological anxiety issue). I cant beleive I waited it out. It was hellish for me too. I made some increadible breakthroughs along the way, and it has stopped entirely. Most of it stopped within the first year. I still cant really smoke any pot though. I almost have a heart attack it is so intense with a tinge of anxiety(I trip my balls off).
Im not an expert, but you sounds like you were prone to this anxiety, and the mushrooms brought it out in a way you wouldnt have been capable of otherwise. I do think the best advise is to heal yourself, and dont take any meds, because if you do you will not ever understand fully why that happened to you. You will likely depend on them to feel normal for a longer period of time than it would take to wait it out. If its that bad though, like pins and needles, I dont blame you. Ween yourself off of those meds though, ASAP, even if that takes a while.

It took me 160 trips or so on the more classical hallucinogens to do that to me, and I still consider myself prone to Depression/anxiety/schizophrenia. If I kept using hallucinogens, the schizo part would really bite me in the ass more than the other two. My family just happened to be very fucked up like that. Both sides have schizos that have had it BAD, and killed themselves.
I consider myself very lucky that I was able to take such high doses for so long, learn so very much about my mind and my external environment, and even music/visual art due to my use of hallucinogens.
Ayahuasca just let me know everything I wanted to know including the fact that the best thing for me was to stop using hallucinogens. I knew it was coming, I learned all I could. I have written about 400 pages about the crazier aspects of these drugs, not counting the many many graphs etc, that are possibly the most interesting things I wrote/drew. I would not trade those harsh experiences for anything.
Thats the point you need to get to.
Many shamans believe the best work done with hallucinogens is in the months following the experience. You can heal you new and old wounds.

the meds arent bad, nothing profound happened to me, and when i miss a day and dont take them it can be as bad as the day after the trip but id rather wait it out in a tolerable state than in a dangerous and harmful one

That does sound really terrible/unexpected. I cant believe that happened to you on a low dose.
With the meds it might take longer, but you sound like you know what you are doing. How many times have you tripped and on what substances?
This subject always intrigues me.
My only advise would be to find commonalities present in your present form of anxiety as it relates to before you took the shrooms. Do you have any other after effects? I wonder because I want to help and know more about this than most people.
I have had this happen before ayahuasca. A few, 4 Lsd geltab experiences within a 2 weeks of one another did this to me too(each trip the equivalent to about a 10 strip of good blotter). MY mind was young and resiliant. It still gave me some rather interesting and profound after effects tinged with anxiety for a year or so.
I think you will come down. If you dont in one year, if you dont you can blame it on the drug, genetics, or the meds you have taken.
One year is a long ass amount of time compared to a month.

third trip all the same stuff, cubensis, shared with friends, all were cool every time except me this last time, i think what i have is more severe anxiety, and i think itll despurse (sp?) sooner, im going to college in 6 months and i want this to be good and over way before then, and i think it will, it just sucks a lot, i wish i knew better ways to cope besides fuc**** deep breaths when it comes over me

I wouldnt recommend you ever do another hallucinogen ever again unless you wait a long-ass time.
That sort of thing is not at all common after three trips.
It took me atleast 60 trips on different substances to begin really feeling some VERY strong after effects, and I was still so interested and able to take 100 or so more trips(+ i noticed the after effects even after my first trip).
Its funny, when this same thing happened to me but in a less intense way (im assuming), I had just received an associates degree from a college, and was ready to specialize in anything I desired. The coping process slowed me down a great deal.

Trying to make the mind still yet active and uncontrived(not desiring some unfounded healing mechanism within your brain), is key. It will show you how to deal and get rid of this problem.
Chances are this will change you for the better, you might become even more comforitable than before you took that last dose.
Again, good luck to you, your not alone.
