Damn they're helpful lol. When mushrooms drop spores they are extremely small and dispersed throughout a filed. The cows eat the grass and deposit them with little piles of they're favorite food.

wind? cows being bought/sold to other farmers? who knows, nature is amazing and always finds a way.

cows graze and often are moved from state to state or even to other countries. When they take a shit they moved the fungi with them. Don't know if it's true but that's the best thing I can came up with.

That is only a minor method of spore dispersal. Most cubes and copes grow from the grass where spores are deposited after the veil breaks and the cap opens up. A cow comes long and shits on the grassy spores and then four to six weeks later after the manure has somewhat decomposed the cubes and copes appear. Sometimes the spores are in grass eaten by cattle.
A few examples of spores and shrooms from grass deposits
All right, now I would like to explain how these mushrooms appear from out of nowhere. Some Mazatecs refer to the mushrooms by saying, "that the little mushroom comes of itself, no one knows whence, like the wind that comes, we know not when or why."
So, this is what happens. A mushroom, as in the images above, pops up in the manure of most four legged ruminants, preferably the manure of buffalo, Bos (cattle, cows, etc.) And gaur; And sometimes in the manure heaps of horses. Finally, when the mushroom reaches maturity, the cap opens and a veil remnant, as seen in the above photo image, drops, and then so do the spores.
So, once the spores have dropped to the ground, that is the beginning of the lifecycle of the mushroom. Spores are dispursed in many different ways. Falling directly below the cap of the mushroom and landing on the blades of surrounding grasses. Another method is from cows eating the mushrooms and the spores becomed disbursed inside one or more of the cows four stomachs. Or the cattle and buffalo shit directly on a place where the spores have been deposited on leaves or the ground. Within 6-8 weeks or so after the manure has decomposed, new mushrooms began to appear.
A single blade of grass with the spores of Copelandia cyanescens in Thailand.

And here is an over turned cow-pie with COpelandia cyanesens mycellium and pinnenrs which grew under the turn showing that the spores were on the grass and then the cow took a shit over the grass.

Birds carried spore prints and cattle carry them on their hooves. The wind blows spores throught he air for miles.
However, most shrooms grow where the cattle are in the pastures.
Only about thirty of the more than two hundred species of Psilocybian mushrooms occur in manure heaps. The majority are wood lovers or they grow in manured soil but not directly out of manure.
mj
There are many ways spores are dispersed.
For more data concerning this cool biological evolutionary process be sure to read, The shit, the flies, the spores, the worms and the ants posted here at this site.
