Too much
    #5282535 - 02/09/06 04:45 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Hello,

I know that you need to keep high humidity in an FC, need to have an FAE system in place and need to provide a certain amount of light, but are there any drawbacks to having too much of these things?

e.g

is there a problem with having constant 100RH (for PFTEK cakes)

is there such a thing as fanning too often, too much FAE?

is there a problem with leaving a light directly on fruiting shrooms 24/7?

thanks!

Alex

for pf cakes, 100rh is fine. for casings in a martha you would end up with a lot of pooling water and drenched casings.

air exchange is only too much if it brings down your humidity too much.

i'm pretty sure you want a light cycle as opposed to 24/7 light. things won't be ruined if you leave it on, but it won't be better.

Mushrooms need a dark cycle to process simple as well as complex carbs. I myself have noticed the most growth during the dark period and there a nice reference (pics) showing this out there somewhere if I could only find it! You do not want 100% RH for healthy growth, you need to have some evaporation (transpiration) this is essential for good pinning (fact). AS far as FAE kilgore is right on the mark!

i wanted to say that dark is necessary but i wavered because ive seen people do well with near 24/7. i do believe that darkness is beneficial as yous stated.

i've personally never done cakes. but i like to tell people 95%rh, but some say 100% and they do well. the evaporation factor is true, but acheiving 100% can involve cake evaporation after fanning. it seems like for many people 100% works, but that the 100%rh is likely acheived from evaporation from the cakes and not just perlite or what have you. unless you have an ultrasonic or something, foggers are some bad motherfuckers.
