What is lost if temp is to high-pasteurizing hpoo/straw mix? Why not steralize everything to be safe?

Because, if you sterilize poo, your opening up yourself 100% to contamns. If you pasteurise your poo too high(sterilize), you lose firefang, which fights off other contams.

More specifically.

Straight Grain, WBS, Wheat straw, BRF/Verm or combinations of those DO NOT contain dead cells of thermophilic microbes, various bacteria, and actinomycetes "firefang", which are the very things that deliver OPTIMAL protein, fat (lipids) & micro-nutrients components (Chitin - for instance) to the mushroom.

Especially with straw, try to keep pasteurization temp as close to 140 as you can. Don't go over 150. The beneficial bacteria that survive the pasteurization will help prevent molds such as trichoderma forming on your straw. If you sterilize or pasteurize at too high a temperature, green molds are almost a sure bet. RR
