Microwave Dry Vermiculite

Hi! Need a quick answer here. Are there any issues, other than melting plastic containers, with microwaving dry vermiculite? I need dry, pastuerized verm for Dunkin' Roll. It was recommended somewhere, but now I can't find it. I began to see warnings about microwaving dry verm when I began to look for a recommended length of time. Appreciate any input!

I myself wouldnt microwave it (although ive never tryed it) but i'd recommand baking it in the oven on 350 for fifteen minutes and it will be fine.

Don't worry about pasturizing or sterilizing verm for a dunk and roll and you NEVER microwave dry verm, peat, coir, etc. Verm comes sterile out of the bag and your fully colonized cakes will be very contam resistant anyway.

it will be fine. the warning is because it is shiney and could reflect the microwaves going threw it like a spoon or fork. i haven't come into any remote problems.

^^^ he's dead on. Verm is metallic so if you put it in your microwave dry you'd put yourself in some danger and would possibly fuck up your microwave.
for dunk and roll just drop some dry verm on a plate out of the bag and roll your cake in it.
